Nickelback Hate

I have seen them live twice. Once with some friends, once with a girl. Both times Chad Kroeger acted like a child and seemed to be drunk or high the whole damn time. He spend more time yelling at the crowd than playing music. I did not pay money for the man to get on stage to talk.

I got fed up when he told a 12 year old kid that the kind needs to go get head from a girl at the concert. Uncalled for.

 

They lack talent. It's like they learned their instruments for a month and got together as a band. They can't do anything special. They also recycle their songs. They sound the same.

 

Basically.

Also, I'm just not a fan. I think that their music sounds terrible. I always thought it sounded terrible, even before it was the hip trend.

Does that make me a hipster for Nickleback hate?

TL;DR = You can layer 2 different Nickelback songs on top of each other, and they are approximately 90% identical.

 

Their songs are very formulaic, but they're fine instrumentalists.

 

I dislike them mostly because they have no integrity, either artistic or personal.

They write cheesy, irritating songs and the radio plays them to death. They keep recycling the same chord progressions for their over-the-top cheesy "sensitive rocker" songs, and they try SO hard to be edgy with their "perverse drug-addled rocker" songs...it's just...they're trying to be two different bands at the same time.

They are reasonably competent on their instruments. At least, they are about as competent as a person who has been taking private lessons for 6 months. I think the gist of a lot of nickelback hate is that they are just completely average in every way. They play generic, formulaic, uninteresting rock, but they try to be hard, edgy, and metal.

Just...fucking...posers.

And Chad Kroeger has the most annoying voice in Rock, except for that toolbag from AC/DC.

Plus they're popular, successful, and probably wealthy. That immediately makes a lot of people hate them.

 

I think they have the only song that most of people do enjoy, and that would the Rockstar.
Other than that.. A lot of musicians play even bigger shit, including metal. Not going to state any of those bands, but, let's say, there is plenty of death, grind, black metal, that sucks donkey arse. This also include the quality, repetetive riffs and tones, ranting on stage and so on.
Long story short, people hate them probably for these reasons:
1)they are popular
2) they have money
3) MTV plays them
4) they call themselves rock, and some people find it offensive etc., for they're popsy lyrical themes maybe.
5) it's popular to hate on somebody
and so on.

However, neither I like them (except for rockstar ) nor I disagree that they're tone and music in general is repetetive. I just think it's a matter of taste.
Let's say I like meshuggah , and they are hell of a repetetive band..

Man, Rockstar is one of their most irritating songs. Just like the rest of them.

 

I don't hate them. I just don't care for their music.

They sound boring, that's it for me. I'm sad for Music that they're popular.

 

My take on Nickelback has always been that I usually don't mind their songs that didn't make it to the radio. I've always really dug their production as well.

I think the problem with their popular music is that it feels and sounds spineless. You can tell that they were writing for the sole purpose of creating a single, and with such a large community of musicians in the world who want to uphold the integrity of music, we like to think that big bands will help fight this battle against the corporate pop/rock machine. Nickelback seems to play for the wrong team. The cheese factor is through the roof.

And hey, who can blame them? They make a damn fine living without their musical souls.
I'm perfectly fine with them existing and creating 4 minute spaces of nothingness. We have to have a band like Nickelback to thrust our hate upon in order to appreciate real music a little more.

 

They can write good songs ...

... and by "good" I mean comercially succesful.

The singer's voice gets annoying after a while, though.

The singer is banging Avril Lavine. I bet she would be annoying as shit to hang out with but I've always thought she was cute in the skater-chick, teen angst kind of way

 

They're just another post-grunge "hard" rock band that makes money off of writing the same song over and again. Nothing new, but nothing we haven't seen before. It's simple music for passive listeners that only care for sappy lyrics.

 

While I dont like Nickelback,I dont see why all the hate either. But coming from the type of cats who consider Brian Johnson a toolbag,its not because of what these tweens think. Im just here because of the guitar porn lol.
