I picked this up on clearance from GC. I thought it was significant enough of a discount to take the deal. It’s a 2018 and it’s a looker for sure.

Fit and finish: it’s a 10 top so it looks amazing. Not sure how long it’s been in store but it shows so signs of play. Light swirling and light scratches on the back but for the discount I’m fine with it. Nothing seems to be out of place. I received it and the setup was atrocious which is not what I expected but a few adjustments put it back into playing shape. If I’m completely honest though, it doesn’t feel any different than other guitars. The clear coat finish still feels like a cheaper guitar. I’m not sure if I was expecting it to be different.

Playability: I have to say that the playability is amazing. Very easy to play. It’s one of those guitars that seem to play themselves. Lighter compared to my LP and the neck is smaller than I thought it would be. It’s a Pattern Vintage which I thought may be closer to my 50s Standard but it’s no where as thick. Still thick enough to fill my hand (hehe) and feel comfortable.

Sound: this guitar has the PRS 58/15 LT set. Very clear and articulate. Not a lot of bite or aggressive per se but they can handle high gain and sound great. They won’t get you modern metal but I’m not going for that sound anymore (low output pickups through high gain amp is what I’m doing nowadays).

I’m still putting it through it’s paces. It definitely has a place on my rack. I may experiment with different tunings and string gauges on this one. I don’t notice the scale length being any different at 24.594 compared to 24.75. I am happy with the guitar overall, it’s plays amazing which is most important to me, sounds good through my Mesa, and who am I kidding…. That too is insane!

Well damn that is a sexy plank of wood. I’d tap that. Congrats!

    Nice man!

When I first heard of PRS guitars, I always thought this single cut model was associated with Paul McCartney of the Beatles.

That single cut McCarty 594 is gorgeous!

That’s a really nice 10 top! PRS transitioned to nitro sometime in 2019, so yours has the V12 finish (which is great IMO). It’s very thin while not being sticky or soft. Doesn’t feel different than acrylic to the touch though.

Yeah I think the finish on the neck feels fine and most importantly it plays so good. Did PRS use some proprietary nitro blend before?

I think they did previously on some select models and PS builds, but it’s now on all models since 2019.

Not exactly sure what V12 was composed of, but it’s very hard and not tacky. Loving mine with that finish. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

From my research V12 has changed many times since it was named as such.

Congrats to the OP, SC594's are a blast. Try 9's if you havent already. I run 10's on my MC594 and 9s on my SC594 in standard. Also futz with pickup height as that should get you a little more bite if you want it.

I would say the neck is fairly similar to the Gibson 50's standard :2c:. Very fun guitars.

Thanks for the advice! I have 10s on currently so next change I’ll throw some 9s on. My 50s standard just feels thicker. It could all be in my head.

Probably more to do with action than anything else.
