I’ve always wanted a Hamer. It was one of those super cool ‘80s brands that were unaffordable for kids at the time. I used to dream of getting a Charger/Jackson, Hamer, Carvin, etc. And the Scarab was/is a badass pointy shape. But this shape is definitely the classic.

I think so -- seems they moved there in 1980? The serial number on this one puts it in 1991-ish range, before the next factory move in 1997 or so?

Earlier this year I sat down for a weekend and wrote scripts to search and aggregate every non-Reverb used gear place I could think of. Gives me a desktop notification if it finds good stuff :D

Firstly, happy new guitar day! I agree that these days that billet of maple would be adorning 100 budget guitars rather than being one massive chunk of flamey goodness. You simply don't find guitars built like that these days, unless you pay through the nose for it and I certainly don't know any manufacturer who chooses to offer that sort of thing themselves!

and secondly, you know that writing computer programmes to act as an early warning system for cool guitars kinda makes you the Tony Stark of guitars don't you!

And what about the Hamer Phantom? That's the one I want... I mean... if I could afford it! Sometimes I am glad I live in this little shitty island where is imposible to find something that it's not Gibson or Fender (with some luck, then the rest is just shitty squiers affinity for the same price they are new...)

I am saving money this way!

But if I could get a Phantom... oh Dio... I could not resist!

I don't know if you're looking for the more super strat phantom or the more LP-shaped redesign, but if the former, the gear search app kicked up a pretty nice one / good price a couple weeks ago:

I was so hoping that this was gonna be a Californian thread and you did not disappoint, that thing is incredible! HNGD!

I was jonesing for one of these or a Kramer ProAxe late last year but I had a hard time finding one online in good condition at a reasonable price. Ended up scoring a new Caparison Horus M3 instead and the specs are very similar

Ya, I just got outbid on a nice ProAxe last month, only to see it pop up on Reverb (grrr). Also on the list. Really like the Kramer jk-8000 too, even if it was not a USA model.

That's amazing! And that's one I would go after... BUT as I said, happily for my finances I am in the Canary Islands so that means that shipping plus VAT of that guitar would make it go up to 1500€ easily and, as I am just a worker that hardly can justify a 1000€ guitar, I'm not buying that one... and I just bought a Solar so no money for more... but I feel sooooooooo safe here...

    PS: Shit! I want it...

I feel like the headstock decal was just a case of "hey we shouldnt make another decal just for this, so lets fit it best we can." I think it adds some charm to the build, like they did a handful of other things you could call 'progressive' for the time, but then cut that corner, or bent the corner rather.

This is good. Slap on a Schaller Floyd Rose and you're mostly good to go. The binding might be tricky to get fixed, but I bet a good luthier could do it for less than you might think.

I should have known. Some of us write trade bots, some of us write guitar-trade bots. One of these days I'll confess about my own bots. :)

You can actually just swap the bolts - FU Tone sells the short bolts.

These are killer guitars, and that body is
