I sold my other strandberg OS8 to buy this one from the Music Zoo. I really didn't like the 57/66 combo as much as the lithiums in my kiesel VM8 (and the top was pretty mediocre) so I started looking for a strandberg OS8 with passives. I got this LE version for essentially the same price as a regular OS8 and I really like it. the top is ok, but it definitely would not have been worth a 200$ upcharge. Strandberg needs to really up the quality of the tops they put on the OS line (if PRS can get good tops for their SE line then there's no excuse imo).

    What I like:
the pickups- I really like the X-bars. great cleans, very clear sounding even on the low end, and has a nice bite to the high gain sound imo.
The scale length (28"-26.5") I love that extra snap that having a longer scale length gives me.
The body color- kind of a teal looking blue in person, looks more dark blue or turquoise on camera.
the ebony fretboard- I love the feel of ebony.
the neck has some birdseye figuring on one side of it.
    What I don't like
    Mediocre top imo
the endurneck- does nothing for me since I always play classical style with my thumb basically glued to the middle of the neck on every guitar I play. If anything I'd say it's the least comfortable neck on any guitar I own and I actually get fatigued slightly faster with it.
THE ....ING STRAP BUTTON ON THE HORN- I can't stand the placement of this button. I took the button off my last OS8 because it digs right into my pectoral. Going to do the same with this one. Even though this is easily remedied it drives me crazy.

Love it! I see this is one of the limited gloss models with quilt top; very cool.

I think the top looks pretty good to be honest. Remember the PRS SE line is a maple top with a figured maple veneer over-top, this is why SE's can feature very good tops for the price. To my knowledge, the Boden OS series features figured maple tops without veneers. However, I agree that some of the tops I've seen were pretty poor considering the price of the guitar, regardless of whether the top is non-veneered.

    Congrats!

It's a great guitar. I just think it would be perfect imo if it had a better top.

in all honesty I'd prefer that they do a maple cap with a veneer since strandberg can't be bothered to source consistently good tops. At this price point (which is more than a kiesel VM8 with the same specs) the strandberg loses in an a/b comparison aesthetics wise.

Happy NGD, the x-bar cleans sound fantastic. The x-bar distorted is in an interesting sound, I've always wondered how it could fit in a mix with it's "open grit".

Agreed on the top, it just looks uninspired. Are these actually 3/4" tops? If that's the case, I feel like a plain maple top with a quilted veneer is a better solution for both consistency and look.

I love the cleans the x-bars can get. I really like the distorted sound too. They sound good with my kemper and with my boogie f30 (which the 808x pickups and 57/66 combo in my last OS8 did not).
The top on this one and my last OS8 were both around 1/4". I've been saying that Strandberg should just do maple caps with a high quality veneer for some time now.

plan is to rip out the emgs and throw in some instrumentals sfty3-8 pickups or the deathbar/xbar combo.

That's the best top I've seen on all your purchases. Where did you find this one?

I just put sfty3-8 pickups in the custom shop one, but haven't gotten to plug it in. The IPNP neck profile feels great (better than the endurneck imo) though there are some cosmetic issues on the body (2 spots filled with grain filler or such, the swamp ash has some knots in it)- none of which are big deals for me.
I really love the sound of the x-bars in the blue one though. Super clear, noiseless (seriously I can play with a ton of gain and no noise gate unlike any other pickup I've played), and I love the sound of them under high gain. I'm still thinking about selling it just due to the lackluster top (this is the 2nd strandberg I've bought with a really lackluster top -__-). If I sell this one I might end up getting a j series or something just to guarantee better aesthetics.

Glad to hear you dig playing them and looking at at least one of them. ;)

A buddy of mine has a black OS8 LE (Lace) and a CS7 with EMGs. He let me trade between it and his CS7 at our last practice. I went into it thinking that the 8 string + me + my typical 6 string amp models would be a comedy of errors and came out three hours later and ordered the last OS8 LE with Lace pickups (in blue, no less) on the .strandberg* site. :D

I'd love to get ahold of a guitar with the IPNP profile to compare it to the EndurNeck, but I really liked the EndurNeck on the OS8.

Thanks for the update. Rock, jazz, and twang them in good health!

congrats on the OS8 LE, they're great guitars especially with the lace pickups.

the ipnp profile is basically thicker at the side dot end of the guitar and thinner towards the bottom, kind of looks like an aircraft wing. Pretty comfortable for me (not that the endurneck isn't comfortable, just less so for me).

thanks, it's a great guitar minus the top being lackluster for the money. The lace pickups are excellent, probably my favorite pickups at the moment.

Nah man the acu pattern is garbage that's why we're going back to a woodland pattern.
woobie is love, woobie is life. they're making the next generation of poncho liners even warmer and tougher :D
