I purchased a Solar A2.7 FR LN a week ago. I was impressed that it arrived so rapidly. It was in mint condition, passed my eyeball test and my luthier's inspection. My first impressions: love the jumbo frets, neck shape, upper neck access and pickups. I would have preferred a satin back of neck, but I'm nitpicking here. No dots on the neck takes a little bit of time getting used to for quick position changes. I absolutely love this guitar ! To give you an idea of the tone, here's a video of me playing a solo composed by Borja Mintegiaga. I butchered it by adding a tapping arpeggio part at the end. In the wake of all the recent fakery stuff, full disclosure: live take DAW audio, no EQ, no comping, no edits, etc.. Tone: NeuralDSP Plini Archetype. (Glasses: cause I got eye problems.)
Thanks guys !! The only thing I’d change is the frets. I’ll definitely be putting jescar 57111 SS frets. They are higher and give way better control for bends and vibratos. They give almost a scalloped feel, making tapping arpeggios easier. I’d also have a satin back of neck to make it faster for quick position changes. That being said, these are personal preferences and the guitar is awesome.
If they only had a no 12" fret symbol fretboard... Has it ever beed this a complaint? I've never seen it coming up.
Yeah, it’s been mentioned in Ola’s FAQs, but if I remember correctly he wasn’t too keen on that. I agree with you but I can live with it. The absence of dots is hard to get used to.
Yeah I’d be struggling having no fret markers on the fretboard. Also I can’t stand stainless steel frets, I don’t like the feel. I used to own a Schecter Hellraiser and I didn’t enjoy the feel of the frets. I prefer nickel frets.
For me it’s the opposite. Just took it to my luthier to put in SS frets. I might repost something when that’s done.
I see a lot of people say that the 12th fret inlay is stopping them from getting one. I don’t mind it and don’t think it detracts from the look of the guitar
Coming from the guy with the Andy James guitar! Just kidding of course, it doesn't bother me - it's part of the brand.
Haha. I had the option to change the 12th fret inlay (AJ symbol) but I liked it that way I think you can get double dots, K or the AJ symbol. I mean it’s his signature guitar, I like it the way it is.
I don’t mind the 12th fret inlay at all. On the other hand, the “Solar” written on the headstock is a bit too big for my tastes (i.e. smaller font would be better).
I honestly see it as it's branding even though it has the name plastered on the headstock. Grats, OP! Great tone and playing, too.
