After much deliberation and consideration, I picked this up a few weeks ago. There hasn't been many new guitars that really interested me, and the surprise announcement (and YouTube algorithm) of John Browne going to a schecter signature threw me for a loop.

I spent about 2 weeks deciding if I wanted to do it, and I am happy with my decision.

The guitar has some good mojo, is very acoustically apparent and resonates quite well. I've never owned a guitar with this color palette either; the closest I've come is a few orange models here and there.

It was setup decently well out of the box, maybe 1/2 step out of tune in either direction 🤣.

The only real complaint I had was the ridiculous gauge of ernie ball strings from the factory. A .080 and .064 for the F# and B!!! It makes absolutely no sense to me.

I swapped those out, and had to hog out the 8th string tuner because a D'addario wind would not fit. Luckily I have digital calipers on hand, so it's within .003".

Overall, I am very pleased with this instrument. I'd thought I'd sworn off schecters at this point (owned an OG KM7, Banshee 7, and a Banshee 8).

Oh, and it definitely djents 🤣

Could you clarify what you mean by you had to “hog out” the tuner? The 8th string wouldn’t fit?

Correcto. The diameter of the wind on the ernie ball string are the non-ball end is smaller than the daddario string.

I buy my strings individually too, so maybe there's a difference in how they manufacture them.

I've noticed it before with some of their strings on longer scale guitars as well.

I’d be curious to hear how you feel about it a few weeks later! I’ve definitely been seriously eyeballing one of these for a while but they’re very expensive here in Canada (about 2300 bucks).

Well I've already had it for about two weeks and I like it a lot.

Cool finish and neck woods! Given the 27” scale and the factory string gauges, what did you end up putting on, and what tuning?

I keep it in standard F#, and these are the gauges that work the best for now.

Schecter 8
8- 74
7-56
6-42
5-30
4-22
3-16
2-11
1-9

I usually always try various string gauge calculators and try to keep the tension balanced around 16-17 lbs.

That’s an amazing color and congrats on picking up an 8 string! I always say there’s only like 2 riffs I’d play on one, but man do they look cool. Shoutout to the algo.
