As part of my on-going guitar collection transition, I picked up this Saito S-622 JMC from Japan. I sold two guitars last week so I bought this one. I'm a bit short on single coil guitars so I picked up this modern interpretation of a Jazzmaster. Saito is a small boutique make in Japan that make very traditional style guitars with a very modern look. One can argue that Fender's new Japan made Modern series is trying to go for the aesthetic established by Saito.

The S-622 is a offset Jazzmaster like guitar with two Saytone Flathead pickups. These are Saytone/Saito's intrepretation of a Jazzmaster pickup. This guitar is alder with a maple neck. 3.29 kg weight. I opted for the Alder body rather than as ash although the ash versions are lighter. Saito have a lot of modern looking finishes. This one is Cloud Black.

I just played it and these pickups have that certain bite that I don't find in my other humbucker based guitars. The set-up is typically high end Japanese and immaculate with a very low action although not as perfect as my G-Life. This has a very comfortable C shaped neck with an ebony fretboard.

    Looks very clean! Congrats!

Headstock has a super Tyler vibe to it. Where does this fall in the quality hierarchy?

In terms of quality, I would say a half a step down from the best Japanese stuff. But that's comparing this to T's, Sugi, Bizen, Black Cloud, etc. These run $2.1K-2.5K so priced comparably to a J Custom Ibanez, a Crews Maniac Sound KTR, Infinite,... The fit and finish is comparable to my Mayones and slight step down from my G-Life or Zerberus. The guitar is well thought out. It's lightweight and comfortable to play (shakes fist at my Regius 7-string). The idea behind the guitar is to use tried and true formulas but executed with that typical Japanese craftsmanship. I appreciate the very zen-like design and the simple yet elegant paint jobs.

I love the body, and especially the finish, but damn, did a headstock steal the luthier's highschool sweetheart or something?

I love modern JM shapes; that satin back is sweet as well. Clean!

    Congrats!

A Jazzmaster - don't think I would ever buy one. One of these - definitely. Looks MUCH better.
