So lately I've been diving back into metal after a hiatus in favor of other musical pursuits. I never really taken theory seriously in the past and I've been working to learn more so I figured what better way to motivate myself than a new guitar.
I was in GC for a used km7 that they had, it ended up being completely uninspiring much to my dismay. I've been chasing a seven that I vibe with ever since I sold my Agile Interceptor Pro a decade ago... Wow. On this forum no less. Not many places left that feel like this site any more.
Anyway for that decade I had also lusted after many a cheesy 80s rg550. Desert yellow was always my favorite. They only had the rosewood fretboard models which put me off at first but after playing it for five minutes I knew it was coming home with me. In the end I traded an Agile 930 and a orange 112 toward it so the price wasn't bad at all.
Already have plans for an aluminum pickguard either plain or red still unsure. The pickups while a little low output for my liking are nice and defined under gain. Unsure what I want to put in it but looking for a slightly more aggressive vibe.
This by far the best playing guitar I have owned. I can't stop smiling playing death metal riffs on such a 80s vibe guitar it feels right.

Great axe! I myself love that style...old school Florida death ala Morbid Angel, Death, Deicide, etc. There was a whole army of thrash and death metal guitarists back then using RGs during the late 80s/early 90s and it's a testament to how great these instruments are.

They had a fixed bridge version of the Genesis series, RG521 it was called, I believe. Sadly, I think they discontinued it. I wanted that one so bad because I don't really use a tremolo.

Happy NGD! Can't go wrong with a RG550, that colour is amazing.
Sucks that you didn't gel with the KM7, I've had a few in our shop that have been hit and miss.

A red aluminium PG would look sick on that.
Have you looked into other pickups for it yet? Im a fan of the DiMarzio Titans in my RG1570, stock single coil for now. They can do it all and still have the clarity and definition under gain.
