This was at the store I once haunted frequently during those pre-Covid days of yore. Initially it was between this Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI or an Ibanez SRC6 Hybrid, but the latter wasn't as good for those spaghetti western or Twin Peaks style tones as I had wanted, and this was also cheaper than a baby bird with Tourette's so I pounced at reserving it and finally got it yesterday.

This is my first time on a Bass VI style instrument and it's quite the behemoth, but thankfully I've got a lot of experience on bass so it's no hassle to navigate. My only gripe is that the whammy bar can barely stay in the bridge, and I'm so used to having my bars in tight holes. Minor hassle aside this is a really fun instrument to play. Definitely will be using it for upcoming material.

Fuck yeah man! Love my VMJM. Different pickups, obviously, but they are great and work really well for tight and heavy music. I'm willing to bet these are good too!

    Me too...

Congrats on the VI. I’ve got a black one, but I must confess I haven’t found a way to gig it yet. Really fun to goof around on though.

    gents:

Thanks! I do want a Jazzmaster in the arsenal myself. They're such nuanced instruments and will be cool to have if I want that sound. I actually have an RG with dual P90s but of course it's not the same.

Nice! What kind of music do you play? Bass VIs are a sort of specialised instruments so they can't really do everything, but really handy if you want 'that' sound.

Defintely a better choice for what you wanted that the SCR6. I have one and its a different beast all together - closer to a 6-string bass than baritone guitar IMO.

More similar to the VI would be a Reverend Eastsider Baritone, Squier Paranormal Baritone, Rivolta Baritone, or Danelectro Baritone.

HNGD and all, but clearly you don't read the Unpopular Opinions on Gear thread.

I think on of the screws on the bridge tightens the bar, but I could be wrong and maybe not on Squires.

Congrats!! I own a SRC6 and love it. I was curious about the squire bass vi so I played one in a store about a week ago. The neck is soooo fat and even though its also a 30” scale, it felt like the stretch was huge compared to the SRC6 IMHO. Cool guitar though.
