Wow man that neck!
Saw that at NAMM, beautiful guitar. Congrats!
That body is black limba? Did they paint it? It looks different from any black limba I've ever seen.
However, it's ....ing gorgeous with the rest of the wood. I kinda gaped at the backside of that guitar, HNGD man!
I hear ya, but the bridge tones pass off as a bridge, just with a little throatiness thrown in. After some tinkering though there's less of the middle-ish position throatiness. This was only really apparent on the F# string and less on the B string. I lowered the neck side screws and raised the bridge side.
No picking issues here. The top 6 strings sounded great before and after PUP adjusting and the 8th string got more bridge character after the adjustment. I'm wondering if swapping the Aftermath to a Cold Sweat would achieve more clarity, but it's really nothing to go OCD over.
The wings are indeed black limba. This is what the original brief owner who spec'ed this out said:
"Yes it is definitely Black Limba wood and its oiled with a trans black. I dont know why they call it trans as in transparent cause its not really see through. But It is absolutely Korina/Black Limba wood and its and oil finish but they call it a matte finish."
So I'm guessing Mayo stained the black limba black and finished it with oil . I guess tone was more important than the look (on the back at least). Regardless it's very sexy. Reminds me of a darkback Goldtop Les Paul...Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Dark Back VOS | Sweetwater.com
