This came up for a silly price second-hand and I had to jump on it. I've already posted how I feel about these when I got the first one. This one is a bit rough to play as the previous owner isn't much of a trem dude and it hasn't been set up properly for the tuning that it's in.

Today's job is setting it up for F Standard (massive thanks to @simonXsludge for advising my on baritone gauges on Instagram), disconnecting the tone circuit, 5-way switch and neck pickup, rewire to a single humbucker and volume knob. Haven't decided what to put in it pickup wise and I've got to draw up a template for a pickguard, should be ridiculous by the time it's finished.

Nice dude! I've been considering getting a second too as I prefer it over my 1077. Here's hoping ibanez release another finish or another limited run pops up again

    HNGD!

Really want one of these for F as well, can play Inferi and TBDM with a low F? Hell yea dude.

As for gauges, you gonna run a set of 9s? All my 27" 8s are in standard with 9s, so I feel like a 7 set of 9s would work well. Be interested to hear what you pick.

For Bb regardless of scale I've always used Erineball Hybrids (9-46) with a 60/62 for the Bb (can't make up my mind half the time). For F standard it's the same but throwing away the 9 and using a 74 for the low F. Might have a fiddle with the third (currently a 26w, might see what lightening that does to a 24w or a 22w). So far so good though. I know Simon uses a DR Strings 75 for F on 27" and Keith has some custom 76 Ernie Ball Cobalts for F on 26.5" so somewhere around there should be fine. Being on the lighter side isn't an issue as the trem helps with tuning stability a lot.

    Thanks for the input!

Just realize I was mistaken: lol: i meant G, what you said still is super helpful. Thanks, are the two pretty consistent feel wise?

Drop G or G standard? With Drop G I've found Erineball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom (10-52) with a 68/70 to be the go.

I haven't noticed any difference soundwise between the two XL's. They feel ever so slightly different because of the string gauges/tunings (the other one is in Drop A) however if it wasn't for that I wouldn't be able to tell the two apart.

For the XLS, its final destination is A standard but the tech mistakenly set it up for B standard. I also use stringjoy strings which have more tension than other strings of the same gauge, i just have to wait for payday lol. Here are my gauges for A standard:
    String 1: .010
    String 2: .0135
    String 3: .018w
    String 4: .026w
    String 5: .034
    String 6: .046
    String 7: .062

for B standard, my gauges are:
    String 1: .0085
    String 2: .012
    String 3: .016
    String 4: .024w
    String 5: .032
    String 6: .042
    String 7: .056
