Indonesian Ibanez gets a bad rep, but I got this beauty from @Ibanez Rules so I knew I wouldn't get a dud. It's been tons of fun. Stainless steel frets, locking tuners, Gotoh bridge, stays in tune great with trem abuse. The Hyperion pickups are surprisingly dark, especially for single coils, but in the second position with the Dyna-mix everything brightens up. Very versatile guitar.

    Really dig the color, congrats!!!

I've played a couple Premium AZ's and both were quite good--only QC issue I saw was saw-dust in the jack-cavity; but then again, I also saw someone with saw-dust in their Prestige AZ jack-cavity.

    Enjoy!

Yeah, like most people I'm extremely skeptical of buying guitars online, and Premium Ibanez is one of the brands that you have to be super careful about.

I tried a Premium AZ, an espresso burst finish one, at Long & McQuade in Canada and I wasn't impressed with the guitar at all.

Getting it from a dealer you trust is definitely important. I do think Indonesian Ibanez is improving though, and maybe within the next 5-10 years it'll basically be a Fender Made in Mexico vs Made in America situation where the quality control is pretty similar.

    Cool.

Yeah I played a couple different Premium AZ's. One at a L&M and another at Cosmo Music (Toronto/GTA) before I moved to a smaller city last year.

Did you pay a lot in customs to get this guitar over the border?

Ah, I was just in Canada visiting family so I wouldn't know how international shipping works there. I live in the states. From what I've seen on Reverb though, Canadian listings don't seem to indicate it's too much more for them to ship to the US from Ontario.

    Happy new guitar day!

Everyone gotta love Rich!!! I’m more nervous buying a guitar in a shop myself and missing something than I am buying from Ibanez Rules and lettingRich do the QC for me?

I love the fact that these premium AZ guitars seem to be getting to the level of being the newRG550.

This model in particular has me interested. Are the specs the same between the AZ Premium and Prestige lines? Or is it like an RG where you'll never get the true Wizard and Edge on anything not MIJ?

The neck profile is the same, which is a chunky "oval c" which I like. Nothing like a Wizard, but they're nice in different ways.

The prestige necks supposedly have some "revolutionary" new treatment of the wood which makes it more resistant to humidity and heat changes. My take? Both the Premium and Prestige are roasted maple, they'll get the job done for climate changes, and until I see some actual research into this new treatment, I don't believe in it. Glow-in-the-dark side dots on both.

Stainless steel frets on both, as well as Gotoh locking tuners.

The bridges are a slightly different model based off the Gotoh 510. From what I can tell, the only difference is that the Prestiges have titanium saddles and the Premiums have stainless steel. Tuning stability is superb with mine.

    Pickups are exactly the same.

Great info thanks. Congrats man. Do you find your self playing more chords on that neck vs. maybe note runs, etc?

I play everything. I act as the frontman for my band so 90% of the time I'm playing chords, but I'll solo and noodle around to fill space as well. The neck is great for both imo, it's really the smoothness from it being unfinished that makes it fast. It's not sticky at all.
