Man, I've always wanted an ESP 7 but I can't stand the E-II logo. So finally after literally YEARS of scrounging local guitar ads and ebay and reverb I finally found a mint condition ESP Standard Horizon 7 on ebay for sale. Here she is:

The specs are an alder body with maple neck thru and ebony fretboard. Swapped the stock EMG 707 out for Fluence Modern 7s. She plays like a dream! Ibanez 7 neck profile was a bit too thin/flat for me but this neck feels right at home. Nut with of 45mm makes it easy to chord on lower frets.

The moderns have a real tight bass response which I like (my Engl Savage is a bit bass heavy). The neck modern I still have to get used to, treble response is a bit too much for me on the higher strings. Maybe playing with the pickup height or enabling voice 2 will improve things.

Awesome. I had one of these from this year for a while as well. Really nice guitars, also this is the last year they had 45mm nuts.

Amazing find! Looks stellar. I want one with a Floyd in the future.

If you dont mind me asking, how did you wire the moderns for them to work properly?
I recently got myself a new 7 that came stock with emgs and its respective EMG wireless components,
but upon swapping the moderns I get hum on the neck pup while the bridge pup is dead silent.
Both sound amazing but the hum on the neck bothers me. There is a cable going from the bridge ground
to one of the ground terminals on the EMG board. I cant find the culprit to the hum.

For now I just unplugged the 707s and put in the Moderns. ESP actually put a ground wire from bridge to the control cavity but it was not connected to ground. No hum at all on the Moderns even ungrounded. Have you tried putting the neck pickup in the bridge position? If it's not humming then there must be a faulty contact on your wire from neck to pot.

Yea I didn't like the 707's at all, too bassy for my liking. I think I would probably like the 81-7 better but after putting a Modern 6 set in my other guitar I took a gamble and just ordered a Modern 7 set :)

Thanks! going to check that out. Looks like a good lead to try swapping them out and see what the culprit is.
