I need you to wear black fingerless gloves on the next tour to prove my theory though.
Win, I really liked the shape of these as an updated firebird.
White is double win. It would have been cool to see before after.
I had a black LTD Deluxe version for a while, it was a solid player too. This one sounds beefier though.
No way in heeellllll. Does this one still have the JB in the bridge? It was too bright for me in my white one, changed it to a Custom Custom. Weirdly, my black one sounds fine with the JB.
Black is darker than white . . . obviously the JB will be too bright in a white guitar.
Come on, it's for science! Really? I hated the JB in the LTD Deluxe model, JB and Mahagony are not a good mix for me. Someone swapped the JB/59s for 81/85s. I reversed them so the 85 is in the bridge, I don't mind that combination. I'm still going to put something else in them though. If I stay active the Duality set might get a try, or the 70s retro EMG set. Otherwise for passives I might do Saturday Night Specials. Been enjoying those in a few others lately. Maybe Phatcats, those are cool too and would be something different.
I must be in the minority here, I thought the JB sounded good in the LTD Deluxe Phoenix I played. I had no complaints about that guitar at all. Would I keep it in there forever? Probably not, but I thought it sounded really good stock.
Had I actually examined the photos I would've clearly seen that it had EMG's, whoops. I haven't tried the Saturday Night's yet. The custom phoenix I have coming has a phat cat in the neck, but did the custom custom in the bridge as I always like that pickup.
Killer find. I've always loved that shape but when I had a Gibson version, that top shoulder dug into my chest too much when playing sitting down.
Coming along nicely. Got some new hardware to replace the rusty screws and straws buttons. Preordered a set of SD Duality actives to.
Congrats! That guitar looks like it has some serious mojo.
I was wondering the same as I saw an example of a case staining a Les Paul many years ago...I thought it was because of the nitro finish at the time, but it did look very similar to yours.
Very nice, really cool looking guitar. I really like most of ESP's Gibson-copy guitars as they end up basically being like the perfect heavy metal version of a Gibson. Like if Gibson continued to innovate past the 60's, and didn't just rest on their laurels.
I really like the worn in white, looks well-loved.
It can happen with nitro finishes, but they are thinner than poly and never quite cure, so they react with other elements in their environment, like guitars stands for instance. They can cause discoloration on the neck where they touch. I have no idea what causes it on a poly finish like this, just a hell of a lot of use I guess.
Other than the frets and neck thickness, this isn't really any different than my Gibson RDs. Consistent quality and finish on ESPs is much better though. I don't think that is really an innovation over Gibson, I just think they care a little more in that department.
Replaced all the rusted out screws/buttons. Installed Schaller strap locks and Duncan Duality pickups. Tuned to Drop C it is glorious.
That is sick man. Put up some clips!
What are the Dualitys like compared to the EMGs?
Nice job dude, looks great! All dat reindeer blue on your hangers
Nice! Looks hot. Definitely want to hear more about the Duality PUPs.
