Cool, just curious if Jonathan had changed the spec and was doing different techniques on them. Might have been an indication he was open to some changes.

I'm still waiting for the B6+1 and maybe some different aesthetic options. I wrote him back in the day asking if he'd do a B6, ebony board+headstock veneer, do the "sandblasted black" ash finish and throw some ivoroid binding on it. From an "amount of effort" pov, very minimal changes, but something cool enough where I might be able to justify it. I didn't get a reply (but I did get a read receipt, thanks FB).

They're not bad-sounding and I could definitely find a use for their slightly brighter tone w/ compared to most of my guitars, but I'm bored with them pushing the same specs for ...7 years?

Thanks. They are just pretty medium to low profile frets. The guitar itself is only 6-7 months old.

Yeah I don't think they are willing to budge much on what you can order as options. They prob don't need to as demand is probably high.

Cold sweats and pain killer. I'm really jealous that yours has the coil tap; I'm going to have to ask Jonathan how to rewire mine for that.

I bet as a part of the licensing agreement, Jonathan is not allowed to sway too far from the base spec as that starts to encroach on B2 territory.

Looks like it on this one. B6's usually come with a two piece body but there are one piece bodied ones as well.

An honest review for a B6 owner would include mentioning that it’s for sale.

Having played a B2, B6, and B7, I find how great Black Machines are directly correlate with ownership status, and/or for-sale status.

This is something that's bugged me as well. Huge fan of the Blackmachine shape, but not super into the raw ash you get on the B6. Even just the ebony board and headstock veneer would really open me up to sending a new order in.

It disappoints me because it's generally communicated that the cost of the B2 is due to the 'quality of the materials,' as well as Doug's time. But if I want a guitar with different woods of non-specific quality and some minor spec changes, it isn't do-able, presumably to prevent people from giving up on the B2. But the pitch for the B2 has no effect on me; I don't care that Doug lovingly crafted it over the course of 6 months using wood from a tree that Alexander the Great chopped down centuries ago instead of Jonathan building it with more standard woods- I just want a nice guitar that looks the way I want it to, and it's disappointing that isn't an option even if you're willing to pay a (reasonable) bit more for it.

I used to be on the hype train years ago before I played a B6, I really wanted one, and when I did I found that 'hype' is all it was. I found everything you said in your review to be smack on.

    Nothing special at all

If you’re interested in a tutorial on how not to sell your B6, look no further than the current listing in the Marketplace. It has all the classics such as advertised as being built by Doug and priced at about triple what it could actually sell for.

Tried for $7k! lol My last "Doug-built" B6 sold here for like $2400!

I don't really mind the scalping prices on ebay or something where you're thinking, "Maybe some sucker will come along", but the forums are a community so I kind of expect people to at least try to adhere to market value.

I mean, frankly he shouldn't be allowed to list it as "Doug-built" anyway, but I digress...

I think it's gorgeous, but it's proven I'm definitely not a fan of clear bobbins.

If Alex had site priorities higher than mehtab’s sloppy seconds bringing in ad revenue, he’d set the board up so that any post containing “blackmachine” would have a “THANKS MISHA” tagged onto the end of it.
