I participate on a guitar Discord and woke up Saturday to find that one of the regulars posted a Reverb ad for a Custom Sago from Japan. At $750 for a used Sago, I didn't even hesitate. It's not everyday you find a 30" length scale baritone SSS guitar. Sago are one of the best custom makers in Japan and routinely do full custom builds and are known for their wrap paint finishes. Normal Sagos are quite expensive but this one is an older custom job that has a fair amount of wear.

I placed the order on Saturday and the shop, Black Guitars out of Kanazawa, got right back to me and shipped very promptly. Order on a Saturday and the guitar arrives Wednesday from Japan.

I do not have much info on this guitar. It is a 30" length scale guitar with three single coils. The pickups are a mystery and seem fairly hot. The guitar is very light weight at 6.44 lbs. Sago seem to specialize in these very long length scale guitar. I have another one of theirs which is a 29 fret 33" scale guitar. This guitar was an experiment on a SSS baritone. The guitar has a very interesting full sound. The timbre is somewhere between a normal guitar and the insane Seed Kotetsu with it's 33" length scale. I find the guitar easy enough to play and feels more like a regular guitar whereas the Seed has a very different feel with three extra inches.

This is the perfect guitar for me since I love these unusual exotics.

not to shit on your thread on anything, but this is what we call a Bass VI, of which you can find reissues from various manufacturers fairly easily.

    cool guitar though!

Damn this is cool. There's a fair handful of bass VI variants out there, but it's cool to see one that isn't a blatant rip off of a fender shape.

The key point is that it was a Sago and the price. The other key point is I loathe 50's design so I would never buy a Bass VI.

You have to have a niche. I think mine is turning out to be scale lengths. I think I need something between 26.5 and 30 now. :p

Certainly an interesting addition to the J-guitar collection. But help a brother out -- Japan Post still won't take my packages and I have an ESP horizon in need of a refin, and a Mesa Mark in need of modding. Do you remember what carrier the shop used?

Man, what a cool guitar! That shape is really different and I like it a lot.

It's hard to tell by the photos, but is the finish white with a blonde/cream burst on the edges?

I bought the guitar from Black Guitar in Kanazawa. They shipped it via FedEx. The shipping price was $75 on Reverb.

The color is something like an Antique White with a subtle burst. Up close it has this interesting iridescence.
