I had been looking for an old MIJ Ibanez for a while and I have stumbled upon this RG560 in jewel blue. I was tempted, but it was pretty scuffed and some parts are replaced and/or missing (cheapo Jackson tuners instead of Gotohs and missing strap buttons). The seller originally asked for $350, but he agreed to bring it down to $305 and that's when I was like screw it.

I have to say, despite the absolute relic hell this guitar is, it feels amazing. The neck is by far my favorite part of this guitar. I thought it being thinner than my Wizard II and III Indonesian Ibanezes would be a problem, but the neck has a certain C-shapedness to it that it makes especially the Wizard II on my RG321MH feel like a cutting board rather than a guitar neck. Even in its current state, the neck is smooth and slick to the touch. The OG Edge tremolo is also awesome; it's super smooth and it survives a lot of abuse before it goes barely out of tune, as you may expect from an Edge. It has a chip on the left side of the baseplate near the knife edge, but it doesn't affect the awesomeness of this thing. I've been playing Indo Ibanezes with the all access neck joint so far, but the blocky tilt joint doesn't hinder me at all. I kind of like a good 'fighty' part of a guitar that contrasts with the absurdly thin neck profile.

Even in its current state, I really get the hype of these old Ibanezes and I get these things are rising up in prices.

I'm planning to refinish the neck in danish oil or something similar. But I'm also having thoughts of refinishing the entire body in maybe the same color something. Should I do it? Or should the relic stay? :D

Happy NGD! I always had a soft spot for the older HSS RGs :yesway:

I think it looks fine as it is, but, if it bothers you, give it a nice new look. Maybe see if you can either replace or CLR those rusty screws?

HNGD!

The dings on the neck would bug me if you can feel them, so I would refinish the neck. But the body is fine as is.

Nice score! Awesome price too, i would have been all over that.

I used Danish oil to refinish my S series. Something along the lines of 15 coats (which isnt very much). It is worth noting that Danish Oil is EXTREMELY thin and fragile, and i couldnt even finish the job without putting more dents and scratches in it. And I did it over mahogany, a very porous wood. Youll be applying it to maple, which has much fewer pores, so id imagine it will take a ton of coats to get a decent finish.

But it feels amazing. It was tacky feeling for a month or so after i put it together, but I gave it some time and now its nice and matte feeling. Very low friction.

Great score. Gotta love those 560's. When they got discontinued it was a long time before Ibanez brought out a HSS RG again. HNGD!

Thanks everyone! I've been playing this guitar pretty much exclusively lately. It makes me want to play all the 80s metal stuff on repeat!

Have more of the same shots of this but with some indirect sunlight. IMG_20220810_162500.jpg IMG_20220810_162935.jpg

Congrats! Does the headstock have a greenish tint or is it the lighting in the room?

I'd spend the money on replacing that V-series bridge humbucker. I don't care for them. The S1 singlecoils are ok.

Otherwise leave it as is. The basswood body is pretty soft so it's going to be prone to dings and scratches even when refinished.

It's discoloration. The right side of the body has that greenish tint too if you get the light right.

I kind of like the V2 so far. It reminds me of the Tone Zone but with less of that low mid boost. I might get it replaced for an actual Tone Zone (I do have one right now, but it's on an RG321MH), but I'm okay with it.

I agree with the body. It's fine as it is, but I might do a refinish for the neck anyway.
