So I play without a pick more than not these days. I can play War Paint no prob. I'm decently fast. I can do sweep arpeggios, legato, and 3 NPS runs easily these days without a pick.
I got all the way to the solo of Devil's Hand. I know what he's doing so I can BS my own runs to the same time and meter. So I thought. 1/4 of the way in my left hand and forearm seized up from all the legato and stretches. WTF how is he human? The solo is 1:30 long! Aaargh.
Wow... LOVED the outro solo!
Yup, human. With obscenely large hands.
damn that was good!
also man, I have a think for his downer tracks
For anyone saying they wished he still used a pick... try playing that solo using a pick. His playing is ridiculous regardless.
Hopefully it will be easier to play once my Kotzen amp arrives. That’s how it works right?
Beaides there’s a million fusion / shred / instrumental guitarists out there. There’s only one RK.
Also add that Richie sings large chunks of the outro solo in unison note for note. The solo is already a challenge, but to add that on top of it all.
Side note: guitarists learning lead should practice this more often or at least dabble in it. Sing the solo you want to play, practice them separately then together in unison. It's an extremely useful technique to write melodic leads and solos, as well as help your pitch and possibly your actual vocals that may come in handy down the line.
So anyone transcribe that outro yet? It's kicking my ass lol.
Speaking of which... someone transcribe these solos for me stat:
Now that I know he uses a pick on this he's only 9/10 super-human
I love his figure style but damn if I don’t miss seeing him with a pick! That solo is pretty epic.
Paying Dues is awesome, I got all my friends hooked on RK with that video. I'll be happy to (try to) transcribe a couple of licks or bars if you can narrow it down a bit.
All the parts between the rhythm parts haha.
