    hey guys, i know there was a thread on the rg2027xl specifically that was already closed, but i came across some information that needed clarity. I saw some people didnt like the new reissue but to me the subtraction of the middle pickup that i usually scrape playing or have to set so low its not sonically plausible , macassar ebony fretboard (easier to get true black than previous rosewood) , a tremolo that doesnt have 15+ years of wear on it , multi laminate neck and stainless steel frets make this much more attractive than the originals for me.

    on the ibanez website it does not say it has stainless steel frets, but on the ibanez wiki as well as the descriptions on axepalace , guitar center , and musicians friend all say that this guitar does in fact have stainless steel frets.

    can any owners chime in ?

    I'd default to Ibanez on this one, which mirrors what Ibanez Rules has listed.

    Reading the spec lists on GC/MF (which are pulled from the same source) and Axe Palace, there are also other discrepancies. Such as saying the radius is 16" or the neck is gloss finished, which are both inaccurate.

    Don't treat the Wiki as gospel either, as it's just put together from crowd sourced, not fully vetted information.

    I believe it was only the Axe palace doing the limited run with SS frets and every place else was your standard fret material unless somebody else was doing a run as well.

    I have already picked up an XLS just waiting for its arrival. In about 2 weeks, ill have a stock 2027XL as well..... if the board wants, I could always do a side by side review of them ?

    Its a tough call for me...Ive wanted the RG2027x forever because of the Double Edge...but its nearly the same price as a used EBMM JP XI-7[, which is unquestionable and undoubtedly one of the most superlative 7 strings ever mass produced (even though its called BFR, which I thought was limited run, but apparently im also wrong about THAT guitar abbreviation lol)]

    How would you go about even pitting them against each other? It just keeps coming up and popping up in different ways and in different threads, almost like a taunt "pick me - no, pick me!" :D IDK man, its like, do I save and get the EBMM on reverb for 1.25-1.5k or get this brand new? I think its the hardest choice I would have to make as far as guitars/gear in the next/past decade! Its not that serious, but its really a hard debate for me so I hope someone might have input or strategy for choice

    I think they have stainless steel frets to answer the OP lol

    I just wanted to update everyone. I just picked up an RG1077XL instead of the stock RG2027XL, i wanted that delicious bubinga stripe, and the neck is 2mm less wide than the 2027XL/XLS. So as long as everyone is still interested, I can do a side by side comparison of the classic vs new?

    For the same price and unless you absolutely need a locking trem, the jp all day. And I saw this as someone who has 2 x type ibanez’s.

    I believe you're confusing the old RG2027X models with the new RG2027XL.

    In Ibanez lingo (usually, sometimes, maybe):

    X = Piezo
    XL = 27" Scale

    Meh the appeal of the x ibanez’s are that they are quirky ... there’s not too many double locking Floyd piezo production guitars. And they are relatively cheap when they pop up. If you’re paying loaded jp money for one it’s time to rethink what you are doing.

    I paid 500 for my 2020x and 700 for my 1820x. That’s about right. Over a grand and it’s no good.
