Hey all,

Our band, Outrun the Sunlight, is releasing our new album, "Red Bird", independently next month, April 21st. We released the first single for the album yesterday along with the cover art, and have opened up our pre-orders for vinyl, cds, and shirts. This album was recorded live, and nothing was sampled. This song is a very personal one for us, and follows the themes of falling in love. FFO: Caspian, Russian Circles, Cloudkicker, The Contortionist.

Hey man, that sounds awesome. Really digging the new track (already on my 4th listen).

Quite a significant change in direction from most of the songs on Terrapin. What made you guys decide to change it up?

I really dig this. Terrapin never quite clicked for me for some reason, but this more post rock direction really does it for me :yesway:.

That's awesome! Glad you are enjoying it! That's a really good question! It's hard to give a direct answer, but I'll try, bear with me haha.

I feel like the change in writing was immensely sparked by us going on tour with Native Construct and Wings Denied. Playing Terrapin's material live repeatedly caused a ton of growth for us personally, and also collectively as a band/musicians. Our biggest goal with the new release was to move away from sounding like perfectly-refined robots, and to sound like an actual real, live band. This came into play when we were writing this album. We had the ability to play the material within our own style, add little fills/touches, or write and bring new ideas to the table. It really allowed us to come together as a whole band to make this sound like it does.

Thank you guys so much! We have some shows in Chicago coming up soon if you're in the area. More exciting stuff coming as well, so if you dig what you're hearing, you'll likely dig the rest haha.

Thank you for sticking together as a group!

And thank you for showing us your growth - love the new sounds.

Terrapin is still an absolute favorite for me too :)

Saw your Audiotree performance (the one with the host that looks like a Golden Retriever). Really great stuff.

For those of you who haven't seen it:

It's kinda cool man. big caspian fan (although I didn't get my username from them, Caspian is my IRL first name, anyway), I feel like it's in a bit of an odd place in that it the tune doesn't really know whether to prog on or drift away or riff and thus feels a bit unfocused. I've given your previous full length quite a few listens though, so there is definitely something that keeps my coming back- always the sign of a band with some good ideas and good vision.
