Can anyone here describe the difference between the JP2C shred mode and the V’s extreme mode?

They're not really similar. Shred mode is basically a boost and Extreme mode is the Mark IV with the Presence pushed in, which alters (removes?) The negative feedback.

Extreme mode is more percussive, more scooped, drier, and has more thump. Shred mode has more gain and compression and can be tighter and brighter depending on how you dial the settings.

The VII seems to sound very much like the V here in crunch, iic+ and iv modes, but with a more intuitive EQ section. I'd still love to hear them side-by-side, though, to see exactly how close.
Less compression too (although this is hard to tell because he sets the two amps very differently).

Running into a power amp into a traditional cab?

Ran it both ways... it was better through an amp into a cab, but the amp was still better :2c: Also did the Kemper and Helix thing. That said sooner or later I'll probably end up with an Axe III just as an effects unit into a w/d/w rig. Probably next year if we move into a larger place, as if I have to move all these amps I'm rigging them up with a switcher etc etc when I put everything back together

Time to start the guessing game!

Mark VIIB when?

I’m gonna be bold and say at NAMM 2024. Quiet announcement made at the show with a small or no press release.

Watching all these demos I don't think my impression has changed much. Only reason I would want a Mk7 is for the namesake mode, and I don't think it's worth that. Maybe it sounds phenomenal in the room, but I don't see it being worth the money on a track.

As far as the EVH noise, yea. Get a noise gate. It's high gain amp necessary equipment for playing live for like the last 30 years.
