Stoked. It only took 15 years, a global health crisis, and civil unrest for Guitar Jesus to come back again.

Guess that pandemic means he had nothing but time on his hands to write

I wonder if it will be more like Michael Romeo’s second album where he ditched the instrumental shred thing and focused on writing various band orientated songs in different styles.

I was expecting Glasgow Kiss to play at the end of the trailer.

Hell, the last time John Petrucci released a solo album, he still had short hair. Anything is possible now.

I remember last time I saw him at one of the G3s he played a newer track

but even that was like 5 years ago! Anyway, looking forward to it.

Curious to see if Glassy Eyed Zombies, Zero Tolerance and Cloud Ten will make their way to the album

Pretty cool. Be cool if LTE gets back together too. Jordan Rudess seems to think it might.

For a second I was excited because I misread the title and thought there was a new John Patitucci album coming.

John Petrucci is immensely talented however, I have to agree with this one comment I read about him. I don't see anything too special about his playing, he plays as if he is someone that gradutated at the top of the music class at Berklee, yet his playing lacks a certain identifiable personality. His choice of notes are great, his ability and hand syncronization is perfect, but he just lacks style.

EJ, SRV, YJM, ZW, EVH, and so many others you can tell who they are just by them playing one note. I can't say the same for John.

On the other hand, when he plays three notes I instantly recognise that it's him. It's exactly his choice of notes and technique that makes his style instantly recognisable for me. It's not something I've heard anyone else play like.

Whoever made that comment sounds really uninformed. Love or hate Petrucci's playing, he's carved out an incredibly iconic sound and musical style that have made him a guitar legend. If anything, what makes his playing 'special' is only diminished by the clones he's created through influence.

I could give you probably a dozen solos of his that rank among the best rock/metal solos of all time, to say nothing of his songwriting. Anyone who can go toe-to-toe with David Gilmour one day and Paul Gilbert the next is a musical freak. Criticisms that his playing is too 'academic' or 'perfect' aren't new--just ask Alexi Laiho--but that's not the same as saying he's unidentifiable.

Romeo didn't skimp on the shred on that album to be fair. He's always been a 'composition first, guitar acrobatics second' kind of musician, though.

Speaking of which, I think War of the Worlds Pt. 2 is already recorded, so we might see that soon as well. Symphony X was rumoured to be going back into the studio before the pandemic went down. I'd expect Romeo is getting a lot of writing/recording done with this much downtime.

I'm not quite sure how someones opinion on a players' playing can be uninformed. There's no "information" needed......just dont hear anything too speical, stylistically that makes him stand out.

You can try and give me some of his solos if you want. I will listen. I do have Distance Over Time and Awake fyi.

So what you're saying is his tone is going to be awful and he's going to steal all his riffs from Christian metal bands? Is it possible to de-muscle a person?
