Alice in Chains have announced a new album called "Rainier Fog" and another song as well.

I dig it. Reminds me a lot of Black gives way to Blue which is my favorite AIC album.

    Album out August 24. HYPE

Yeah, that's awesome. Definitely has that "Dirt" vibe to it.

    KILLER riffs!

But they seriously need to let DuVall cut loose. Song would have been much better IMHO if Duvall had the lead and was allowed to sing with energy and aggression.

And weird for me to say because I freaking love Cantrell, but that solo was oddly out of place. Felt forced into the song.

I like it, but then again I like everything AIC puts out.

That bendy riff that follows the vocals is fucking LIT

I haven't listened to much post-Staley AIC, are there any other newer songs with Duvall that are like this?

I liked the solo okay but I think it would've been cooler if they lost that final chorus and ended the song by letting the last bend and chord of the solo section just ring out.

Listen to black gives way to blue if you haven't. Fantastic album. A looking in view is pure heavy

As someone who is a huge Layne fan, AiC is one of those rare bands that managed to come back from that sort of loss and still crank out quality material that isn't too out of place with the classic material.

They're released two albums of music post-Staley, just listen to them? That's like 2 hours 20 of music.

Huh. Funny that Cantrell lets DuVall take leads for guitar but doesn’t seem to let DuVall loose for vocals.

I’ve seen them live, and when they do the older, more Layne-centric material, DuVall just nails it and sounds incredible. No reason not to let him carry some of the new material too. Cantrell sounds great too, but he’s much more laid back and kinda droning. Which has its place and sets a cool mood, but DuVall can add a much bigger pop and contrast if they let him.

DuVall gets to shine some on Last of My Kind. When they perform live, he does the Layne parts of their older material and does a great job IMHO. So he’s definitely capable of being the “lead” singer.

Really been digging this song since it was released, just like "The One You Know". I wonder what's up with those super low-sounding bass notes in the chorus, though...5-string bass? Bass octave pedal?

It sounds like he goes A-Ab and then jumps up to the higher octave, so I'm sure it's just a detuned 5 string. I didn't listen with headphones, though.

I'm not the most familiar with AIC's music, so I could be wrong here, but I don't recall Mike using a 5-string, which is why I suggested the octave pedal, but it is most likely a 5'er...sounds pretty cool in the context of their sound!

I feel like he used a 5 string on some song on Dirt (Down in a Hole maybe?), but I might be wrong as I haven't listened to that album in many years.

Looking at his gear list from 2009, he had a 5 string and a few 4 strings. So, it's not unheard of in his career.
