1596011276223.jpg Perhaps not SUPER special but give it some time and theyll probably be as hard to get as ironbirds are now unless you luck out and find one and are willing to pay stupid prices. Been wanting one for years, so im stoked! Not a single chip etc!

Id love an NJ but this will suffice,
Think ill try to murder it out over time.
I need to join a OSDM band STAT!!

I'll always have a soft spot for these. Definitely getting some Glen Benton/Deicide vibes.

    Congrats man.

Mods planned? Please don't tell me you're throwing a Darkglass pre in there.

Guess you didnt see my post a few minutes ago in the unpopular opinion threads lol (spoiler, i hate that darkglass bass sound)

I dont have the spare $ to put into it but down the road id like to...
-swap the PUs with dimarzio split Ps which are black on black.
    -hipshot tuners black.
    -dye the fretboard black.
-somehow make the body matte black.
-swap the bridge for a black one (dont really know how to do this one)
    -black knobs.
    -DR black beauty strings

Back in the early 2000's I had an NJ series Warlock bass and although I had to buy a custom case for it (thanks widow headstock) it did sound pretty good.
I ended up selling it because the neck dive on it was insane. Every time II would be playing it and let go of the neck it would just tilt like a teeter-totter.

Hopefully yours is balanced a bit better than mine was.

I dig the Darkglass sound, but that's not what this bass is built for.

Good choice on the DiMarzios. Send those babies straight to jack and you'll get a monster, fat, gallop friendly tone. Think Steve Harris on roids.

To matte the finish, just hit it with some steel wool or micro mesh.

Bridge swap shouldn't be hard with that setup either.

Nice! That's like three whole USD.

Scratches are what gives you the cloudy, non-gloss look of matte finishes.

    Sort of.

The smaller the scratches the glossier the finish. If you look at a gloss finish under a microscope you'd see tiny scratches that when taken together reflect more light than fewer, larger scratches.

you should see if bc rich will throw some abalone binding on it for you. they're so enthusiastic with it on their new stuff they might do it for free just out of habit.

You can look up some "matte the neck" tutorials on youtube and you'll get an idea of what the outcome would be.

Skip to around 5:19 to get a good look at the difference when you scuff it up nicely:

Not sure if it's a popular or unpopular opinion, but a lot of these BC Rich shapes seem to make nicer looking basses than guitars. I dig it. I'd love a double split-P setup on a bass like that. Your ideas for mods sound great too.

edit: Also worth noting, even if it may be common sense... Make sure to eaither pull the pups out or tape over them if you're using steel wool. Metal shavings plus magnets equals a bad time if you don't mask it off. lol

If you ever get steel wool shavings on the pickups, just take some packing tape and press it gently to the pickups and remove. It might take a couple goes, but removes it really good.

Dude, I got one of these NJ's back in the day for 180€. The seller wanted to get rid of it because "that shitty thing needed a new 9V battery every month"..my best guess is he kept his bass plugged all the time

    Nice score!
