This is probably the 12371628736127th thread about this guitar but I thought I'd share my experience after owning one for a few weeks anyway.

Right out of the box this thing felt awesome, like it was designed especially for my hands. Playability was great, the fret-work was amazing (seriously, no complains here whatsever) and the finish flawless.
There was a gap between the neck and the body so I dissassembled the guitar completely in case I got a lemon. Turns out there was little piece of wood in one of the neck-holes. Which is funny, cause this wasn't necessary. Pulled that piece of shit out, cleaned the pocket and see there: the screw tightens without a problem :yesway:

Now the neck sits perfectly in the pocket. Next problem: the pickups sounded kinda nice but where noisy as fuck (probably broken). Fuck it, wanted to change 'em anyway. So I sent it to the luthier and got 2 emg 808x installed.

Oh boy! I've never been so in love with a guitar before
I own an RGA8, too, but for some reason I never connected with that guitar. This one feels just perfect.
I work a lot and gradually lost interest in playing guitar. I have the feeling this thing changed everything. I'm practicing again like a madman instead of sleeping haha

Best 600 bugs I've ever spent (guitar+ pups).
This particular guitar is better than my RGA8 and is close to the RG2228 imho.
So for anyone still in doubt: Buy one, dissassemble it, check for any flaws. Those things are cheap and there might be lemons. But if you get a nice one: Fuck yeah

No pics 'cause y'all know how this thing looks like :p
Too dark right now to shoot some pics anyway.

Reading this made me feel at ease, I just ordered my Ibanez RG8 and I was worried about quality. I have been reading multiple threads about the guitar but I believe that this guitar will be worth while.

Good review and testimonial! Glad it got you playing again!

I've been thinking about going 8 as well. Torn on getting the RGA or the RG - I think you are right, spend a little extra and get a better guitar. :)

It's kinda funny that I play now stuff that I haven't even tried playing on my 6 or 7 string. Suddenly I'm playing classical pieces or spanish guitar. On an 8 string
This thing inspires me so much, I love it more each day haha

In case anyone is still wondering which pups to choose: the emg 808x are really nice :yesway:
Heavy as fuck but if you wanna go clean it just sounds beautiful. Awesome pups for a basswood body.
Here a lil' soundcheck I recorded within like 30 minutes, so don't expect anything special playing/mix-wise

    ^^^ Nice ^^^

What did you use to get this?

I thought about uploading a little demo of my RG8 with D Activators, but I don't want to get laughed off the site!

I might just pull the trigger on the rg8 for a testrun as my first 8 string, but I'll need to get some ionizers and something to cover up the trenches =P.

Damn that is filthy sounding... 8 string GAS ensues.

    My thoughts exactly... :yesway:

Glad I'm not the only one...

I did find that although there were no finish flaws, the finish on mine is SUPER thin. Nowhere near as tough as the earlier MIJ Ibbys I don't think, but the guitar itself is still solid as a rock.
