I recommend the "Pigalle" (9e district) and a street called victor massé.
Tons of music shops. It's in the red light district though so it can be quite "burlesque".

I am French leaving in the US and every time I come back I check the area. Lots of cool gear (you will see many Vigiers) but pricing was not that great (compared to the US).

Sounds good! Are they keen on letting you try stuff?

There are cool stores in that streets and lots of them. But definitely NOT keen on letting you try stuff (especially if you don't speak french). I do speak French but they still didn't let me try the Malmsteen strat they had in one of them and a fretless vigier in another. Also all of the stores (except for one on the corner) are TINY. So there's hardly any room to try anything. But it's great browsing.

Ah, bummer. I speak French but I'm more comfortable speaking English. I'm mostly interested in a shop called La Pedale, seems to carry Strymon stuff!

La Pedale is great and they have booths where you can try anything!
But the prices are not that great. I also like to browse that street "victor massé" for used gear, they have a ton of used guitar stores.
