I don't agree that they sound like Skindred. Say what you want about their style but the guitarist got some mad chops.

I honestly don't get how people can say that Moon Tooth aren't really doing anything original.

In an era where 99 percent of bands sound exactly like some other band, that's something you can't say about them.

And when bands say that "they have tons of influences" and "don't really sound like anyone" 9out of 10 times it's not true, but with Moon Tooth it is.

The music is as informed by Rush and Led Zepplin as much as it is by Jane's Addiction and Faith No More and Torche and Mastodon, it's a fantastic melting pot.

And while they sounded completely erratic on the last album, it's clear they put in tons of work to keep the wild chops, variety and weirdness while honing in on writing memorable songs.

The icing on the cake is the singer who sounds like he probably doesn't even like metal, yet he fits into their sound perfectly and brings a really soulful, husky almost r'n'b motown voice, which you almost never hear in metal.

To me this is one of the best and most exciting rock albums of the last 5 years. I get not being into their sound, that's fine.

But saying that they are doing nothing special is pretty wrong. They have carved out a completely original sound of their own and combined tons of influences without sounding like musical ADHD, which is an achievement in its own right, especially in 2019.

And not to even mention the production and overall feel of the album which is top notch.

I picked this up about a week ago and am really liking it. I don't think they sound much like them, but I get kind of a Clutch vibe from their stuff.

Chiming in late, but Crux is easily my favorite album of this year and probably the last three or four.

I am in complete agreement with DLG on everything stated above.

The album is a great growth and delivery on all the promise and potential that their first album showed. I really can't say how much I love this band enough. They vibe in all the right ways.

Nick Lee is also a fantastic player.

Btw, I never said I didn't like the album. Just because you associate Skindred with being a corny gimmick band doesn't mean I do. FWIW.

I think their sound is definitely a melting pot as well, which I think is a much more thorough endorsement than acting like it's a sound never heard before. The thing I liked the most was the fact it sounded familiar.

I check this album out yesterday after I saw that they're opening on the Caligulas Horse NA tour. Good Lord Crux is a great album. I seriously had "Through Ash" on like 4 times in a row.

Damn, there's a Toronto date in May for that tour. Would be pretty stoked to see them and Caligula's Horse, and would give me plenty if time to soak up this album. I only heard a couple songs but they were super tight and original, their older stuff took a few listens of Spotify Recommendations to get into because of how erratic they were but this sounds like I'll be able to dive in pretty easily.

Yeah they’re playing at Slim’s in San Francisco, that is a great place to see a show, I think it only holds 400 or so. Seriously considering pulling the trigger, I saw Queensryche and Fates Warning there about a year go.

Late to the party on this, as per usual, but finally listened to thos front to back. Gotdang this slaps hard. These guys are a real breath of fresh air and now I just found out that they're on the Caligula's Horse NA tour. Looks like I'm making a trip to Toronto in May.

So the fellas are releasing an EP at the end of the month - “Violent Grief: Acoustic Selections”. It’ll be four covers from Crux plus one new track.

They dropped this earlier this week, I dig it:

I’m really looking forward to this. Nick is a proper guitarist, crikey.
