I discovered it just now, felt like sharing.

I was checking out the past bands of the different members of Cannibal Corpse, out of curiosity. Monstrosity was Corpsegrinder's last band before replacing Chris "EEEEEEE" Barnes in CC, and I thought, let's check out his last album with them. You know, like, what the guys in CC might have been given to listen to at the time before auditioning him properly. And hooooly shit, this album fuckin slaps. Stank face guaranteed.

The production is better than a lot of death metal bands at the time, and, the RIFFS, man. There's no song that feels like filler on that album. I might just wanna check out the rest of their stuff now.

Millennium is my favorite album from Monstrosity. Guitarist Jason Morgan did an outstanding job on that album. I'm not sure if you know about it but Pat O'Brien, ex-Cannibal corpse guitarist, was in Monstrosity from 1996-1997 before joining Cannibal. Pat stated that their music (Monstrosity) was difficult to play. I don't know what songs he was talking about but I would bet the songs were off of Millennium. Pat's statement made me go back to that album and examine it more closely and it had become my favorite album from them.

I might just wanna check out the rest of their stuff now.

Their other 5 album are solid but they are nothing like Millennium. Nothing against the other guitar players who have been in Monstrosity but Jason Morgan was the most advanced/technical guitarists they ever had.

There's a Youtube video of Jason Gobel recording/practicing the song Dream messiah that you may enjoy. You can hear Alex Webster (Cannibal corpse bassist) in the background. Both Cannibal and Monstrosity were in the studio at the same time recording Vile and Millennium back in 1996.

Monstrosity is one of my fav OG OSDM bands. Another gem from FL. Lots of awesome riff writing throughout their existence. “Millennium” is definitely a higher technical record on the whole, but they have very challenging stuff on several records. Even their slower stuff is interesting and well written. “In Dark Purity” (1999) is a personal favorite. But all the way back to their “Horror Infinity” demo they’ve been a very solid band.

Awesome to see people finding these guys out!

I love In Dark Purity, but the album art is …something. I remember picking it up at a co op records because it said monstrosity and the art looked like a bad sci fi movie I had at the time seen involving video games and some robot killing. Good times.

I just love monstrosity. I saw them open for hate eternal in 08? They were on tour for spiritual apocalypse and lee Harrison bought me a beer and signed my cd and I was only like 17. Good dude.

I've stopped caring about album artwork and music videos a long time ago. A lot of it is fucking cringe tbh  but it sure helps to sell your record if the artwork looks cool.

Lately I've felt like giving older death metal a much more thorough listen because it's honestly something I've kinda skipped over... but it turns out I like the sound of it. Having stuff to check out is gonna help to make the cardio sessions (that I should get into) less boring. "Modern" DM so to speak doesn't seem to be my thing as much... I made a thread about slower DM recommendations a while ago because I seem to like the groovier stuff more than the combination of ermahgerd blast beats, almost rapped vocals, 7-string fretless bass solos and all that stuff that more modern bands do.
