Talking current production model Horizons and Prestiges here. I'm looking to go either way here with a new 7 string, and was just wondering for the price, +/-2K, would I be noticing any significant advantages over one or the other? Oh, and fixed bridge models only.

From the ones that I remember having, the ESP/EII Standard series had a narrower neck and much larger frets than the newer Ibanez Prestige stuff. Those things made a pretty big difference in feel. Both are made pretty well. I think the Ibanez fretwork tends to be more consistent, though I've had a Prestige here or there that had a low fret too.

Biggest differences are going to be the neck and the frets. The ESP is almost certainly going to be a thin U (think rounded bottom). The Ibanez Prestige with a wizard neck is going to be thinner with a flatter bottom. The neck feels a bit wider on my RG655 vs. my E-II Horizon III. In terms of fretwork, they are both quite good. My ESP has more rounded fret ends. My Ibanez overall feels just a little bit smoother in terms of frets. Both are going to be very nice guitars, and consistently so.

They're both good unless you get a lemon, so buy whichever looks cooler and make sure you've got a good exchange policy.

There are significant trim level differences in the "Prestige" range. As a rule I'd rate ESP waaaaaay above Ibanez at equal price tags.

Ibanez wins hands down. I just got this prestige from the J Team. Behold the new 2020 RGDR4327

I was talking ESP I had a E-II and I find that the prestige is much higher quality it feels like a weapon of art. ESP's are great guitars but i prefer Prestige.

Both are solid options that more or less boil down to preference rather than build quality disparity, in my experience though ESPs fretwork is more consistent and the fret ends are given a significant amount of attention - though I'd be lying if I said J Customs don't have fretwork on par with ESP Custom / Original series.

Sorry to hear about your lemon RG5328 - maybe use the refund for a used standard series ESP or new E-II?

    Esp custom shop > J custom > E-II/ESP standard > Prestige

    IMO

An ESP CS will have godly frets, don't forget Schecter USA either.
