That second clip is great haha. The funny thing is that Lars helped us/the internet inevitably towards this situation with the whole Napster thing.

I do like the irony in this happening to Metallica.

The acronym is for Digital Media Copyright Act but it's a catchall term for basically any and all anti-piracy or anti-fair use of copywritten material.

In this case, they're referring to an algorithm that companies like Twitch and YouTube use that automatically analyze a waveform of any content streamed on their platform, compare it to any content that has a copyright on it and takes action against it. Most of the time the action is decided by the copyright holder, and it can range from demonetizing a video, to the more extreme side of muting a video or deleting it all together.

The ironic and not so ironic thing someone pointed out earlier is that it happened to Metallica, who likely are the ones who pressed for their material to be so heavily regulated.

Digital Millennium Copyright Act, a piece of US legislation. People use the term 'DMCA' colloquially to refer to a specific process under that Act. Said process involves a copyright owner being able to send a notice to someone such as the owner of a website to notify them that there is copyrighted material and to take it down. The Act essentially provides that, if persons who host content comply with the process under the Act, then they cannot be held liable for having hosted copyrighted material.

In the modern day, large websites like Twitch and Youtube have mostly automated the process because it is impossible to physically comply with those requirements. Because it's automated, large copyright holders can enter into agreements with those websites to take advantage of the automation and automatically take down copyrighted material, or even claim all monetisation rights. But it can, will, and frequently does automatically remove content it shouldn't.

In this case, the organisers for Blizzcon clearly didn't bother to make arrangements with Twitch to ensure that licensing issues for broadcasting a Metallica performance didn't get flagged, so it was automatically muted to prevent copyright infringement.

And that whole process has now colloquially become a verb, where someone can be DMCA'd which basically means they were automatically removed for possibly infringing copyright (whether or not infringement actually occurred).
