Not ringing my bell or anything. It's a "fun" song, I guess, but if I listen to a Metallica song and don't feel like moving some part of my body in time with it, nor headbanging spontaneously? I'm ... I don't want to say disappointed because I really don't have expectations for Metallica anymore. Mor just kinda meh.

I'm glad they're still enjoying themselves. Beyond that? Sounds like retirement home metal. And I say that as a guy that should probably be digging retirement home metal, but I'm just not quite there yet, apparently.

So far, I'm really digging the new Metallica songs; looking forward to attending the listening party in theaters in two weeks. I think this is definitely a step above Hard Wired, and a leap above Death Magnetic. I'm getting the sense that the guys are starting to settle in a bit more with their age. When I saw them on the Hard Wired tour back in 2019, they seemed to be much more comfortable with the mid-tempo stuff and struggled quite a bit with the classics. At this point, I'd much rather they focus on writing songs they can actually pull off live. Hearing the kick drums drop out during 'One' and 'Blackened' was rather disheartening. :p

An effort would be nice.

I think people are so quick to dissect newer material because everyone is desperately looking for something decent in the song. Unfortunately its been pretty surface level for over 30 years now so this situation is reminiscent of a pack of vultures flying round a carcass that passed a long time ago. People have chose to settle for mediocre when it comes to Metallica.

With regards to any age related qualms people might have, i give you Megadeth.

Aren't the drummer and lead guitar player in Megadeth a decade younger?

Mustaine definitely sounds old...as he should...cause he's old

I can see retirement home metal becoming a genre. My brother and I once joked about writing an album called 'Get Off My Lawn' with songs like 'Hip Replacement Blues'. :D

I had an old person death metal project at one point:
Fuck the Snow (Shoveler's Lament)
Backbrace from Hell
Untraceable Origins (Where are my Glasses?)
Drowning in Prescriptions
Retirement is Death
I Already Bought my Plot (<--uber br00tz about picking a cemetery with your partner)

Has anyone found Lars' kick drum way too loud on all of the singles so far? The drums overpower everything else in the mix

Revocation has you covered!

But OT:
I should stop listening to the new Metallica. There is nothing they do anymore that I care for.
But I will probably listen to the album.

Some early reviews are in, last title is 11mn long with drum and bass breaks, and the song is awesome ( so they say).
No ballad, no instrumental.

Yeah, that new song is ok, kinda sounds like they tried to make another Spit Out the Bone and it just didn't turn out as good. I don't hate any of the songs so far but it doesn't sound like I'll keep listening to the album after the first spin either.
