Guitar genius Mattias IA has posted a few new compositions lately. They are sounding more and more like his old material mixed in with some Meshuggah influences. He also has a video explaining the use of Konnakol for composing the first song below. Very interesting stuff.

I respect his stuff and appreciate it at an artistic level but I always find it hard to get into my rotation for daily listening. Great new tunes, though. I'll always be happy to see that sexy Caparison 8 being put to use.

Great guitarist with a unique voice. But this new song is just a little too repetitive for my likes.

I prefer his solo and Freak Kitchen days...

Big fan of his Freak Kitchen days too.

My favorite from him is his interpretation of Minor Swing from his old solo record. Very unique.

Nothing but resepct for Eklundh. Don't care for Quad Damage but that Reshuffling of Atoms song is really cool.

Am I the only one that enjoys this making-of video more than the actual song?

I've always had trouble getting into Mattias Eklund's stuff. Don't get me wrong, he's a far greater guitarist than I will ever be, and seems like a super nice guy as well. However, there's this sort of Prog Goldilocks Zone I have in my head for that kind of music, and his always seems to be on one side or the other, never just right. It's evident when he solos and goes to a place that is, musically speaking, just too esoteric for me to care. This is as opposed to someone like Ron Jarzombek who somehow manages to seem tuneful even when he's going pretty out there.

Totally agree. The first track was utter crap and the second was pretty awesome.
