They can’t do shit with new amp designs so I guess they are rehashing old pedal designs?

Ehhh in this case I don't blame them. These pedals became pretty legendary to the point you got a ton of clones based on them. If anything I'm surprised it took this long to reissue them.

I guess I under estimate the history of them. I really don’t know much about them. Only one I’d ever heard of was the Guv’nor.

I've heard someone (@wakjob ?) claim that the Shredmaster is supposed to be close to the Valvestate 8100 soundwise.
Also was used by Johnny Greenwood so Radiohead fans are gonna fucking flock for that thing.
Releasing a 8100 preamp pedal is exactly what they should do. Currently have a Master Effects Martyr. I would buy a Marshall unit in a second. It would be so rad if it was sized like the Victory v4 pedal amps.

I've used a Shredmaster and a Guv'nor over the years, well, back when they were new (I'm old). Both are great pedals IMHO. Sounds like the Drivemaster is basically a Guv'nor without the loop (I never used that anyway).

The bassist in me (don't ban me pls) is pretty interested, since the Guv'nor was reportedly part of Tim Commerford's elusive signal chain for awhile.

I'm a huge 8100 fan. It was my main amp for years. I'm jumping all over one of the Shredmasters, for sure. The Marshall fanboy in me wouldn't let that chance pass.

If you don’t have one, you should get a Martyr over the Shredmaster.

I'm a Marshall fan, so I'll be getting the Shredmaster regardless. But is there any reason the Martyr is supposed to be "better?"
Go listen to demos comparing it with the real amp. Very close.

Is there any proof a shredmaster is similar to a 8100 other than they have a contour knob? Has anybody compared the actual circuits?

The Martyr is designed/marketed to be a 8100 preamp clone. I don’t think they ever marked the Shredmaster as that. Would be funny if it was just a Shredmaster clone! I’ll have to see if I can compare circuits.

While I've never compared them directly, I've heard from several reliable sources that side-by-side, the 8100 preamp and the Shredmaster sound close enough to identical that most wouldn't be able to tell the difference if they're run through the same power section. Guess I'll see in a bit.

@wakjob and @Shask seem to know about that. I remember when I was asking about 8100 pedals (this was before the Martyr came out), they recommended the Shredmaster.
...I gotta say though the Shredmaster sounds fucking great in clips. Judging by the Sweetwater demo it seems to have that snappy attack the 8100 has.

The 8100 Preamp and Shredmaster schematics are quite a bit different, so I dont think they would sound the same. However, you can tell they are in the same family, so there are probably a lot of similarities.

It has been MANY years, but once upon a time I had a Shredmaster and a VS100, and I remember they sounded similar, but the VS100 had more gain than the Shredmaster. The Shredmaster is really not super high gain by itself. It is basically the Guvnor with a Contour control.

The lack of gain is exactly why I was surprised somebody would say it’s 8100-like. Guess it’s what you are going for in the end, but the Shredmaster does not seem like a Death-in-a-box.

One more of the Martyr. Lambchopper678 nails a bunch of tones with it.

I feel the same!

I should say he used it on the first album for those gritty bass breaks and would turn it off when the band came back it. If you give them s register you'll gear the low end roll off on them makes it hard to use as a main bass OD

I'm 99% sure the three guitarists each had one of the marshall pedals, made a lot of sense to keep the frequencies separate.

Isn't the Shredmaster supposed to sound JCM 900-ish? I have never read or heard that it is supposed to sound similar to a Valvestate 8100 before reading it the last few posts.
