Hey guys I have been kinda down, and haven't been able to write anything that inspires me to tinker with the mix.

Just wondering if you guys have some clean di's and drums written on superior.

    Thanks in advance.

Well I'm looking to put one together in the near future. I actually wanted to get a group of people together to put together some covers stems for people to mix with, but no one seemed interested when I made a thread.

    Sick man.

I thought something a little more interesting than straight up Djent? Any Interesting ideas. I can do bass parts and vocals... also drums if we really want.

Maybe something with a good mix of cleans, break downs and leads so anyone using it to practice mixing has a good variety. Maybe some good tempo changes as well.

A track of a song, exported from start to finish with all the editing done. So that you can import all the tracks of a song from 1 single point in a DAW and they'll line up perfectly.

So song with lots of breakdowns, clean bits, heavy bits, screams and vocal cleans, maybe some keys.

Suggestions of songs? Maybe some Opeth or Porcupine Tree, or perhaps some Mastodon or Machine Head. Or Karnivool, Gojira..? Anyone got ideas.

It would be cool to have a sticky thread for stems as suggested above. It would be cool to have the opening post explaining how to produce stems and how to get them up and running in your daw to practice mixing.

This thread might take off if there is a better understanding of how stems work. I have a rough idea on how they work and am keen to get involved in this and learn more while helping others.

    How about various levels like

    Nirvana
    Pantera
    Metallica

Maybe a devin townsend tune like Juular or something off addicted? Old after the burial like Forging a future self. Just easier stuff to start with

Stems and DI's are great ways to improve your mixing skills. This would be a great idea and surprised it is more prevalent here. Share!!!

ok... here are some suggestions. Maybe if you all tell me which ones we should we can get a consensus and start on some, or add some to the list, obviously knocking over easy ones first.

    In Bloom - Nirvana
For whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica
    Sad but True - Metallica
Changes (In the house of Flies)
    Orobouros - Gojira
    Roquefort - Karnivool
    Oblivion - Mastodon
    Blackest Eyes - Porcupine Tree
    Zombie Inc - In Flames
    Alias - In Flames
2 Minutes to Midnight - Iron Maiden
11th Hour - Lamb of God
Aesthetics of Hate - Machine Head
Be Still and Know - Machine Head
    Ghost of Perdition - Opeth
    Bleak - Opeth

That's what I thought of off the top of my head and quickly scrolling through my iPod.

I would love to do a combined cover of something epic like Ayreon's "Age of Shadows" from 01011001 at some point too... but that's a ways down the line still I'd say

My skills are more in song writing than covers so something simple would be cool for me.

Maybe In Bloom by Nirvana to start with?

I would be up for writing an original guide track as well if everyone would be up for an original as well.

I could put down the guide so everyone can put there thing to it whether it be Drums, Bass etc

We could write a track with all elements like Keys, Cleans, Breakdowns etc. Something perfect for mixing practice.

I don't want to go away from the original thread so maybe a cover and an original??

    I write metal. http://www.myspace.com/quarterblind

Not trying to plug my band lol just to give you an idea of what I write.

Always keen on different styles though

I think a cover would be great so you could refer to the original and see how different the mixes are.
