If you're anything like me, when you got the new Musician's Friend catalog this week, you were probably thinking "Joe Perry? People still talk about Aerosmith?" No fan here, but let's talk about this Custom Gibson Les Paul he's got, presumably with a high price model coming out with the same specs in the near future.
Thinner body LP with a Wilkinson tremolo. Looks like a nice neck joint carve too. FWIW, he mentions EMGs in the brief interview, though those are clearly not EMGs in the pics unless they started putting screws in the 57/66s.
My main interest is that he talks a bit about the rolling nut and swears by it.
I'm all Floyds these days, but I refuse to allow myself to sell my ESP Eclipse II. I am, however, looking to remedy the tuning situation that I've had with it and having never seen a rolling nut on a LP (though I'm guessing Carvin probably does this with some regularity on their single cuts), this caught my eye.
Anyone else have experience with them. Thoughts? Genuinely superior to a well cut and lubed graphite or bone nut?

That thing is beautiful. No nuts input from me, but I dig it and I'd rock it. Thing is badass. Man I love me some one pup LPs.

Other novel feature: that silver knob is a wah-wah. Not a wah user, but a cool idea.

My old guitar teacher used to swear by them. He had the on all his strats. I don't really like the way they look but they played and felt pretty decent (IIRC).

Kind of cool, I like Wilkinson Trems, you don't see them in much though. Those appear to be EMG 57s in bridge, they do have pole pieces.

I've had three guitars with an LSR roller nut and they were all fantastic. They were the only strats I've had that stayed in tune for long periods of time though all of them were combined with a set of locking tuners as well. I've never seen one on a Gibson. I don't think I've ever seen one on anything outside of a strat or a tele that I recall.

Love Joe! Would love for this guitar to be available!

Here's a vid with Joe talking about the guitar:

And in this vid his tech shows it off. (At about 9:20) Also, this was before the Chandler Tone-X was installed.

The weird thing is, I was at the mall about a year ago or so, and there was a poster hanging near a kiosk with that same picture on it. I was probably the only idiot that stopped and drooled over it

Single pickup LP with a Wilkinson? Absolutely yes :agreed:
