This one is a beauty!! African Blackwood is very nice fretboard wood, super smooth and holds oil better than ebony so its always slick to play on. It's a very hard wood so no surprise the neck is very stable. Gorgeous Koa top too.

Short version to not derail the thread. I spec'd it out. Doug didn't want to sell it to me. Doug sold it at a loss to someone who immediately flipped it. I was only annoyed at the time because people kept messaging me to buy the guitar for an insane price(there was prize to whoever helped sell it). This was the push for Doug to nearly triple his base prices so it cost a lot of people. I didn't lose any money from it so I just moved on and got a similar spec build from another builder.
So you specced it, he built it for you, then decided to sell your build to someone else last minute? If that's the case, this is pure trash business practices.

at least the guitar got built? I had a build slot, got sick of Doug's shit ... like not ever answering emails, not telling me my top wood had been stolen, when the guitar was going to be ready or what it was ultimately going to cost. I was kind of opposite of OP. When I finally got to play a blackmachine I thought "oh... okay" and decided it wasn't worth all the drama. Sold my build slot to somebody else and who the hell knows what ended up happening to it after that

I regret not toughing it out so I could sell it for 5x as much when they became prog metal's biggest investment bubble

but wow, I forgot how gorgeous they could be. before Doug lost the plot he made some outrageously nice guitars.

Yeah, considering it did get built in the end is still a leg up considering how many other luthiers would just take the money and run. Sorry to hear about your experience, I can understand how the process can definitely leave a sour taste in one's mouth. I had an experience like that with Sherman back in the day and ended up pulling out of a build due to his odd business practices and communication skills. Still haven't had a chance to play one of his instruments, wish I could have gotten Chris Letchford's 8 when it was up for sale.

That's one thing I think a lot of the "hypemachine" Blackmachine enthusiasts don't understand. The whole "Pick of Destiny" component of the hype is just ridiculous. Like with every guitar, there are some people who will like it and others who won't. He has really good builds and some that don't live up to the same standard as well. The Snakewood/Ambonya Burl B2 is one of them according to a few of the previous owners of it. That's one that is the equivalent of the neighborhood bicycle.

That being said, I'm glad I got ahold of this one and was lucky to have it fit my style as well as it does.

Hi all,

This is a very belated NGD as I've had it for a little over a year now. I just haven't had a chance to do a proper NGD for it.

Pretty self-explanatory at this point I imagine, but I'm in love with this B2. It was built in 2012/14 (so I was told), specified by Lorcan (Hi Lorcan!) but ended up going to Dez (The Safety Fire/Good Tiger). I had played an Ebony Topped B2 way back around 2010/2011 which really opened up my eyes to how much I wanted one. I was originally intending to buy it when Dez first sold it, but unfortunately at that time I couldn't make it work. Luckily it popped back up for sale around a year ago and I was able to buy it from the previous owner in Germany who unsurprisingly was reluctant to sell it.

One small ding on the back of the body, but other than that it's in perfect condition. The neck on this thing is stable as hell. It didn't shift in the slightest despite moving halfway across the world to a completely different climate. It also has the best feeling fretboard I think I've ever played on.

Anyway, enough talk. Below are specs and some pictures for you.

Body: Old Growth Honduran Mahogany
Top: Flamed Koa
Neck: 5pc. Rosewood w. African Blackwood Fillets
Fretboard: African Blackwood
Scale Length: 25.5"
Frets: 24 Stainless Steel frets
Pickups: Bareknuckle Silo Pickups
Bridge: Schaller Hannes (Silver)
Tuners: Locking (Cosmo Gold)

Thanks for checking it out all!

That's actually the best part of the whole story... I sold my blackmachine slot, took the money and put a deposit in on a Sherman! He almost finished the guitar - sent me a picture of with the finish on it and everything... but he never actually finished the guitar or refunded my money. Fuck that guy. The whole process sucked so bad, from the start with Doug to the end with Mike, I've never attempted to get a custom guitar since.

HAH! What a coincidence. Sorry to hear about Sherman as well. I can understand you not wanting to deal with customs after that experience. It’s really too bad about Sherman, I heard nothing but great things about his guitars. It might be worth giving it another go for a Carillion, my experience with Chris has been easily the best I’ve ever had with a builder.

where Is iron wood i the neck?
I’m a wood worker and I was lookin at some iron wood the other day. It’s the heaviest, most dense wood ever.
in the the Baltic its used to replace truck beds.
iAl’s one of the few woods that sink in water.
stunning guitar ! That Koa top is ridiculous.
