    :wavey:

I've been wondering about this for a while :

Why is there no restriction on picture size when posting in threads?
I mean, 3264x2448 is cool when you look at a Switzerland lanscape and want to look at it in details, but when you have 756 pictures of a guitar in 65 different angles and that post gets quoted 4 times in the same page, it's too much IMHO. I could understand when it comes to a dealer or member here selling his guitar, but otherwise it's too much resolution for it's purpose, me thinks.

Anything we can do about this?

Pics past a certain size are automatically resized once they've loaded, although if you have a slow connection like I do you'll probably never notice if they're particularly large as they never finish loading. I don't know that there's a way to actually cap the size of externally-hosted pics, but either way that's something Alex would have to impliment, as always.

Yeah it definitely is annoying, I don't want the pics straight off your camera, crop them down to 800x600 or use thumbnails.

I think something like 800x600 or 1024x768 pics hotlinked to the original 10MP photo etc would be the way to go about this.

There isn't a way (that I'm aware of) to limit externally-linked pics (that's why I put that CSS resizer in). What people could befit from however is a quick tutorial in the IT section on how to resize pics with any of the free image editors, such as Gimp.

was thinking about the technical problems of validating the size and those just turn into massive security holes lol. CSS is the best way, then you can at least size the pics down/make them turn in to a scollable area.

Doesn't make the pages faster though. At some point there could be a script that check to see how large the physical size of the image is (bytes) and if it's over a certain limit then it would make the img tag a url tag instead. I have no idea if it's possible with the forum software or not, however, and if it is it may be way too difficult lol.

...or just use the "IMG for bulletin boards & forums" link codes at image hosting sites e.g. Photobucket and the others.

So... Since I guess nothing can be done by our mods right now, could we at least make a thread to ask people to downsize their pics? Like a sticky or something at the top of the forums?
