But seriously I have no idea how to answer this.
I din't really know at first how I would respond...
General consensus, I figured, is a total noob with a 4000$ custom might not be worth his guitar in terms of experience, skill etc.
For instance, I'd feel bad if I got myself a Blackmachine because I feel I wouldn't make the guitar, nor the money spent, justice because I'm not good enough.
Maybe it's not such a common thing for guitarists to reflect on... But I for one feel that way
I would rock the hell out of that if it was an 8 string. That is a badass logo I dont care who you are.
I need a 4k custom just to sound good lol.
I've played and practiced guitar every single day (seriously, never skipped a day) for going on about 13 years now. I believe my skill level deserves $1,000-2,000+ axe. Do I own one? Well, because of various debts and the fact that my family (and I) mostly belong to the "lower middle class" of America, No, I don't own an axe that expresses my worth as a guitar player. EDIT: At least not anymore, anyway, I've owned a couple expensive gems, but usually end up selling them to support me and my family financially.
BUT: I do own 9 cheaper guitars, so I guess it's about the same.
A $1500 bass. No guitar.
Actually I was having this discussion earlier - don't know about dollar value, but it would only have 12 frets. Haven't earned my upper range yet.
I've got a Hagstrom I paid $220 for at a pawn shop and a Gibson Les Paul Studio I bought second-hand for $800, and they've both been great for anything I've put them through, so I guess there's my answer. Anywhere in the $220-800 range.
Most of my guitars are worth around $350-$400 and they don't seem to be holding me back.
The two basses I use the most cost me less than $400 combined. Neither are holding me back.
So, ~$400 guitar, ~$200 bass. That's the price range of my skill.
Most days somewhere between
200-400. A damn fine Yamaha.
I guess somewhere around 4-5 hundy.
I'm perfectly happy with my Carvin.
$2500 being Guthrie levels, and $0 being Lil Wayne levels, I'd say I'm at about the $900-$1100 range.
I hate this game though. I manage to portray myself as not being all that good while still coming across as a douchebag for claiming I deserve a $1000 guitar.
$$60,000,000,000 double-dollars is my final answer.
Probably less than a broken string.
'Prolly a multiscale djentstick ERH with BKP warpigs.
they don't make guitars cheap enough for my skillzorz
On a bad day
On a good day
I finally upgraded to an Ibanez Prestige model ($1499) last year. Prior to that I had been mostly playing a $600 used USA B.C. Rich, though I did have a Washburn that retailed for $1000 (but I paid way too much for that piece of kit).
That's me too.
Back when I played all the time i'd say close to the thousand dollar range is what I think I deserved. Though i've never owned one that expensive.
Now though i'd say 500-700 range as I don't play much but still got most of muh skillszz
