It's why I'm not putting too much blame on Josh (though he had to have known this was comign lol). The video just comes down to "yeah, you can make what you got work in a mix". But it's a bunch of idiots that came to the conclusion that this video meant the Bad Monkey has some secret pixie dust mojo that made it sound JUST like a Klon.
Exactly. He could have just as easily used a Danelectro Transparent OD, Visual Sound Drivetrain, etc... and gotten very similar results. It just so happens that he picked the Bad Monkey, probably not because it sounds so amazingly close to a Klon but because it was just a super cheap od pedal that doesn't happen to suck.

While the other half went “JOSH IS BAD MEANIE HEAD GUY HE CONTROLS THE WHOLE ECONOMY”
Either way, both sides are a bunch of dildos.

It is pretty hilarious that instead of making the price of Klons go down, it's raised the price of the Bad Monkey. Human beings are weird.
Human beings will do whatever to make a few shekels.

i traded a bad money for a boss ge-7 10 years ago. still have the eq and don't regret a thing. what i do regret is selling a DOD malmsteen OD that i bought new for 29.00 from musicians friend. have you seen what they go for now?
I think I had a YJM 308 at some point. I wish I still had it.

So, I'm going to start posting videos of every single OD pedal that I own with each pedal dialed-in to match the sound of a Klon and what a Klon would do to the tone of a signal chain.

Soon enough, I'll surely be able to offload every single OD pedal in my lineup for at least $500 a pop, right?

If you get to have a presence in the pedal industry with the same knowledge that Josh does, I don't see why not.

Should that happen, I will at least take responsibility (unlike Josh Scott) to the fact that my video content could knowingly influence legions of guitarists of the lower possible tier of mental capacity into engaging in truly absurd behavior.

I mean, if anything, this whole debacle doesn't say anything about Josh, but instead says something about how unbelievably stupid guitarists are, and how desperate guitarists are to make a mere dollar. (Because they sure as shit aren't making any dollars off their music that they recorded in their spare bedrooms or living rooms. Especially if you can hear their spiteful wives hollering at them to "turn it down!" in the background of a track. )

Josh didn't do anything but show that you don't need a thousand dollar drive pedal. He did nothing wrong. It's already been mentioned, but the stupid motherfuckers who didn't get the point of the video are the ones who are doing anything wrong (price gouging). If anything, Josh exposed the people who would rather gear chase than play. Me myself, watching the video? The tiny differences I heard doesn't warrant one of those being thousands upon thousands of dollars while the other is worth 50 dollars at best. Diminishing returns like a motherfucker.

Just to clarify: I didn't say that Josh did anything wrong. Instead, I explicitly said "this whole debacle doesn't say anything about Josh". And I took a shot instead at "how stupid guitarists are", referring to those who are actually indeed spending the absurd amounts of money on a low-tier DigiTech pedal based on one singular YouTube video; and I took a shot at "how desperate guitarists are to make a mere dollar", referring to the opportunistic scalpers who pop up in droves without a moment's hesitation to list items at unreasonably inflated prices through ridiculous actions that are very much interfering with the stability (and the trustworthiness) of the market.

The diminishing returns of the former group literally pissing their money away on a cheap, piece of shit pedal valued at $40-$45 at most is going to be hilarious. As I said previously in this thread: "A fool and his money are soon parted."

The original Klon is worth thousands because they were made in limited quantities, are no longer made, and have been played by some famous players. So people pay the money not because it sounds better, but because it is scarce and collectible.

As for sound, there are tons of klones out there starting around $100 new and even less used, so there is no reason to pay the high prices just to get the tone. Leave that for the collectors.

Then it appears that I misunderstood your statement, my apologies. :)

So it's a status symbol. A virtually meaningless status symbol that lets people feel like they are in the same club as their favorite musicians.
