7 strings are too wide too play leads. Ask Jeff Loomis and John Petrucci and Jason Richardson etc

“7 strings are really difficult to play”

I wonder how Kiesel are going to change that for him. If he finds the extra string uncomfortable there isn’t a whole lot that can be done unless he wants thinner string spacing to make the neck closer to a 6 string.

I'm surprised he is doing anything with Kiesel when I thought FFDP was big behind the BC Rich comeback.

The other 2 guys (supposedly) are. Chris Kael and Zoltan Bathory. Jason's pretty devoted to Gibson/Epi, but didn't seem to like the 7-string they made him, so he's working with Kiesel. Seems kinda weird, but whatever works.

    It's a great idea really.

Think of the audience of each brand, traditionally. Who is probably more receptive to 7-string guitars?

Remember, this is a business move, nothing more. Anyone can make a 7-string Explorer, not everyone can sell them well.

    It's like a Conklin Sidewinder+Parker
    with fetal alcohol syndrome.

I'm sure most people look at it and are too Pablo Picasso'd to notice the two different sized pickups.

While we're at it, I just found a picture of the 7-string Hook was talking about and uh... It actually looks great?

"so essentially I have a 24-fret Gibson Explorer, which doesn't exist"
I've seen the Explorer 90 with a single H, a HS with a slant S, a HSS, with a FR, I think there were ones with HH. Then there's the fairly recent Explorer Baritone.
But no, they just don't exist.

Aside from the weird cutaway it looks good. The original Gibson 7 string explorer is still on my bucket list...

If he wants to stay somewhat Explorer and go Carvin he can revive the V220 or, X220 shape.

That's a cool idea actually, the makers' site doesn't appear to be working according to 2009 URLs.
