It's interesting to see his tastes change. Dude was a 24-fret Floyd Rose Superstrat player for the longest time. In the passed 2 years it looks like his tastes changed; I noticed he was playing a custom Strat-style guitar that looks like it would be the precursor to his Charvel sig a few years ago, before his Fender/Charvel endorsement.

And I wonder how effective the Wilkinson saddles are? Definitely not a Floyd killer but you're solving one of the friction spots.

Aaaalso not surprised to see this thread go full SSO with SS fret discourse lol

The bridge, at least this style, doesn't really have the sort of inherent tuning issues as something like a Bigsby, or ToMs or anything where the string runs extend significantly between the moving bits and the holding bits. Even traditional Strat bridges aren't too bad.

The big breakthrough with locking bridges was the nut. That's where the problem is.

I've tinkered with these bridges/saddles and similar examples over the years and I don't really think there's any special sauce going on. You're still going to need a well cut, well maintained, ideally lubricated nut and either tuners properly strung or locking ones that negate that to see any real gains in stability.

I have put theses saddles on my Suhr Modern.
True, you need to have a perfectly built and setup guitar. No, it's not going to be as good to a Floyd Rose to stay tuned, but it ill give you a nice little extra something. I have fun making dive bomb with it from time to time, I don't end up with a totally unplayable guitar afterwards.

I love most of anything Charvel and Jackson. Some of the stuff over the past couple years has been great and some have been a miss for me.

I have owned a few Charvels, and a couple Jacksons over the years. Charvels have the best neck profile for me, and I sorely regret selling one of the 2010 USA San Dimas models that I had. :wallbash:

The DK's are so worth it to me, I have one and I'm not going to sell it. I've been trying to get my hands on one of the Jackson SL3 guitars. I know a lot of people like SS frets but I prefer nickel frets. They are softer on the hands and they are so much easier to work on.

Not really a signature model, but:

Story of that thing according to the seller: the guy asked ESP for CS guitar based on Aswani own guitar. ESP borrowed the guitar from Aswani himself, the guitar was measured and made identical, the artist himself played the thing and it was certificated by ESP CS. Retail price was 7.4k in 2016. Now, 7 years later, 4k less.

Life is wonderful.

Has the Jackson X-series quality improved? That new Scott Ian V looks siiiick.
Anything from Indonesia has been hit or miss in my hands, whether pro or x series. There isn't a big difference in QC between them. It's mostly price differentiated based on specs.

However, like the Ibanez Premium and whichever ESP/LTDs are made in Indonesia, it has gotten better, but is not perfect. Most are playable but will require set-up, and poor fretwork is common. I'm talking about needing a level and crown job out of the box for best playability, not rough ends, which are a less serious issue. All of these brands are mostly made in the same factories. I'd say 30% need fretwork to be remove buzzing that's annoying, and 10% aren't playable without it.

In my experience, I'd rate the factories building pro and lower Jacksons today as:

WMI Korea >>>> Samick Indonesia > Whomever builds them in China ≈ Cort Indonesia

However, others may have different experiences.

Axe Palace has a platinum pearl SL3 that plays great. https://axepalace.com/jkas-sl3-platinum-pearl.html They're more than a bit anal about what they stock. I can confirm it's basically perfect.

Sweetwater has some other colors in stock.

Both places I wouldn't hesitate to buy from without seeing it in person due to AP's standards and Sweetwater's easy return/exchange policy.

Are all Jackson/Charvel block inlays as big as those Scott Ian ones or are those oversized?

I personally wish that was a TOM bridge and wasn’t chrome hardware, but still kinda neat to see a dimeslime’ish finish.

I am curious if he is still an EMG artist. That was the big surprise with his sig when it was revealed that he had custom Charvel humbuckers in it and not his signature EMG set. Over all Love the guitar and the specs he went with.

X series. All the headstocks are black.

Edit: That's apparently not true anymore. I guess this is what happens when you don't keep up with the products for a year or so.
I would like to say there's some rhyme or reason to their decision making on this stuff, but there never has been and probably never will be.

Really dig the new Scott V. Still, I'd be curious to see it in real life, as the green looks bright on pic , but on the video they released today, it's not as "slime" that i thought, but it can be the video.
Sad they don't put duncan on it directly.
