So, is Orange Goblin a real band, like, grew up together smoking pot and listening to Sabbath and drinking beer and working on motorcycles together kind of real, or is it a cynical ploy "brainchild" of some middle-aged "producer" guy in a suit, to hire some dudes and hit exactly all the right buttons to make 50 year old dudes like me do the sign of the horns and say Oh yeah, that rocks so hard in every possible way!

Just curious- at my age you get catious about being conned by stuff that seems too good to be true, due to many experiences with the deceptive demonic ways of women I guess.

Thanks! Can't believe I never even heard of them until today. Now I have to check out a band that seems related, Electric Wizard.

Orange Goblin is so awesome that I feel bad that I'm not wearing my leather jacket today.

Ive never heard of deceptive women being the cause for doubting a bands' originality before, definitely going to use "deceptive tubes" in upcoming gig conversations.

The dons of the London stoner scene. Real as can be, singer Ben can be seen at just about every London rock and metal gig going, and always has been. Everyone's had a good time with Ben somewhere along the line, they're all legends.

I'm sure they're a cool band, but I'd probably listen to them and go, "Eh, I still prefer Mage and Beastmaker."

They had a couple of pretty cool songs, never really held my interest more than that.

Yep, they rehearsed at the same studio as my old band in the early 00s. 100% legit.

Yep. I don't really know the guys but we do have a lot of mutual friends in the scene. They're funny buggers.

    EDIT: Ben's huge btw!

EDIT2: And don't go drinking with any of them. They will bury you!

I'm aware that it was more of a rhetorical question, but to reiterate:

I have witnessed Orange Goblin in a live setting a number of times; attended a few of their annual Christmas shows in London and when they supported Down at the Roundhouse in 2012.
I also remember seeing fliers for their earlier shows around the Harrow\Uxbridge\Watford area, unfortunately I was too young to attend back then.

In conclusion; they are a real band and do exist!

If I am not mistaken they are the cousins of Spiderman villain "The green goblin". He is more of a death metal guy so they do not speak often.

I'll have to check out Mage and Beastmaker, those are some blue-ribbon Metal sounding names to be sure! I think Orange Goblin is pretty much perfect as far as hard rock/metal goes. That's what had me doubting, because every aspect seemed almost too good to be true.

They've managed to keep going with basically an unchanged line-up for over 20 years, and managed some success along the way. Any band with that sort of experience should be pretty good at what they do.

What really helps is that the music is honest and the band members are exactly what they seem to be (which is rockers with a few grey hairs who have spent a lot of time in bars)!

EDIT: Talking about London bands, the guy who designed the cover of the last OG album plays guitar in a couple of bands, including this one:

Well worth a listen. More trad doom than OG, and the riffs are ridiculous.

EDIT2: I'm also one of those people who think that Electric Wizard are way overrated. They're very good, sure, but IMO there are bands who do more interesting things with the doom genre than them.
