    Ok paint arrived

I sprayed it over the weekend while it was sunny. Finished yesterday and today has been rainy, so good timing.

first coat of transparent yellow on. Nice and bright.

after a few coats it darkens up a bit. Lighting was different in this pic though so makes it look like more dramatic of a change

First pass with the burst edge. I’ve never done a burst before. It goes on thin so you need multiple passes. It’s easy to lay it on too thick. Glad I did this sat flat, or it probably would have run after that first coat. I did get a drip off the edge of the can. I let it dry for about half an hour then spot-sanded that area a bit. Mostly not noticeable now.

    burst done.

I’m quite happy with the look so I think I’m not gonna bother buffing or polishing it. I didn’t do any grain filling anyway as I like the open-grain look.

Overall I think it turned out good for a first-try, and with rattle cans, which isn’t ideal I know. It’s a 50-footer for sure.

Now I get to wait 3 weeks for it to harden and then I will assemble.

Clever intonation rig! I love seeing people's work-arounds for situations like that

The lacquer felt hard enough so I figured what the hell.

Spent half the damn day setting it up. I couldn’t figure out why the low B would not stay in tune for fretted notes after I put on a new string, turns out the nut slot is too narrow for the .064 I have. When I tuned it up before painting, I used an old set of strings I saved for this purpose, and that set had a .060 low string, which does fit.

About an hour later with a triangle file, I widened the slot a bit. Enough, but not perfect. That nut must be hardened steel, Jesus Christ.

Maybe I will finally buy a dremel.

the bridge saddles also needed shimming to match the fretboard radius. Fretboard is 12” and the bridge looks more like 15” or something.

After shimming, filing, and setting it up, it plays quite well and sounds good! Real monster of a neck, 1” thick throughout, it makes all my other guitar necks feel super sleek and thin.
