If you had $2kUSD for a custom 8 string, what would you get?

So if you had 2kUSD for a custom or semi custom 8 string, what would you go with. The lower 2k opens it up to used stuff obviously and some smaller brands.

Keep in mind this is specific to a custom or semi custom although somebody is bound to miss the point and mention an Ibanez Prestige for some reason…

$2k gets you a lot in the Kieselverse from kids that just buy these for instagram pics and immediately flip them for their next Kiesel. They make good guitars, just don't buy some kids Bananaburst with Watermelon fretboard handsigned by Jeff. Please.

used kiesel is always a good bet ime. If you can save up more then I'd say a used Aristides is a great option. There are multiple 080s on music go round's website right now

Yeah I would personally gravitate towards used Kiesel or Carvin for that exact reason. I’ve seen a lot of them that just lived in a case their whole lives. But, no doubt there are a ton of really ugly builds out there that no matter what the price is I wouldn’t want it. Haha.

This is really just a fun poll not real research. I bought a used Carvin 2 weeks ago and that would probably be what I did again, but wondering what the rest of the forum would do hypothetically.

Valravn? Are they even taking orders right now? Their shop is kind of in a shitty situation that's no fault of their own. I think a few people here ordered them before the war, and IDK if anyone ever got theirs. @profwoot ? @ICSvortex ? I don't recall who else...

Can you get one of the other options with the specs you want for <$2k USD?! If so, that'd be pretty cool, but it seems sort of hopeless to me. Maybe I'm too picky or too pessimistic. If you see an actual guitar (not a pre-order or pre-pre-order or deposit or whatever) that is exactly what you want and you can afford, then buy it! I don't think anyone here can tell you what you should want.

$2K ain’t getting you a custom anything. That is flat-out not enough.

And none of those companies listed offer custom builds. They allow you to create a “semi-custom” production line build from a list of predetermined specs that they (the company) absolutely will not stray from, minus maybe Skervesen who seems more open to custom options. But you absolutely are not getting a brand new Skervesen (or even a secondhand, single-owner Skervesen) for $2K.

I talked to the Valravn guys a few weeks ago and they were still taking orders. I think they said they were on the far west of Ukraine so they could still ship. Also saw they posted a new build on reverb this morning.

Sure. Semi-custom it is. But yes a built to order with chosen specs (within the parameters of the builder) which from what I’ve seen is usually enough options for most people.

I’ve seen 2 used 8 string Skervesen builds over the past month. Not sure how many owners obviously but they do pop up for $2k

I can never find a used kiesel that checks all the boxes for me. I'd save a bit more and just get a new kiesel. The schecter scallon 8 looks interesting if you like multiscale.

Yeah good point. It looks like there’s always options like this from Kiesel on the used market. I’ve even seen an Osiris 8 go for as low as $1k with minor use.
