If Dream Theater had a good vocalist, they might have sounded like Distorted Harmony

A Relatively unknown Israeli band. They remind me a lot of Dream Theater, but their singer, IMHO, is much better than LaBrie. Judge for yourself~

And their new album, full on yoyutube:

And a Muse cover, including a bassist with bitchin' facial hair:

    Enjoy! :metal:

It's like Dream Theater and BTBAM had a love child.

Eh, the band's not bad but I don't really care for this vocalist myself. Vocal styles, like everything else are a purely subjective thing.

I don't think Labrie is terrible though, I just think the band tried to turn him into a cross between Dio and Getty Lee (which is a horrible combination anyway you slice it). The later albums where Labrie has pretty much been left to his own devices vocally are much better in the vocal department.

Despite knowing it to be utterly impossible, I keep holding a small bead of hope to see Khan perform with Dream Theater.

Bear in mind Dream Theater's from a different era. These vocals sounds very much in line with a whole host of shite djent bands. And also his vibrato is really off-putting.

Can't say this was particularly interesting.

I'll take James LaBrie over this guy...

And James Labrie is the reason that I don't listen to Dream Theater.

Yeah, i'm not a big fan of Misha either, but the band is awesome - and has amazing energies live.

Fun fact: guitarist used to borrow my guitar before each show so he wouldn't have to rely on his Ibanez live. I had a free pass to all their shows up until recently:metal:

Since I consider Awake to be one of my top vocal performances on ANY record (and my favourite record of all time, too) and since that band sounded to me nothing like DT did in their prime, I say nope.

If I want DT with another vocalist and actual personality I take Circus Maximus.

Not sure what there isn't to like about labrie. When the band does a good job, he does to. In my (humble opinion) dt hasn't come close to making anything as emotionally and musically satisfying for me as change of seasons. And on that cd labrie personifies the lyrical concepts of the cd so well. However when dt makes what I consider cheesy ballady stuff then he's naturally gonna be cheesy to.

    LMFAO. I don't think so!

Saw DT live earlier this year. James LaBrie sounded pretty phenomenal.

dream theater fanboys up in this piece getting visibly upset

sounds good, wouldn't even compare them to dream theater, or djent, or coldplay.

Sounds like good modern prog metal, similar to the last Teramaze album.

To be fair it's a needlessly inflammatory thread title.

I'm not a massive Dream Theater fan or anything, but they're arguably one of the most significant bands of the last twenty years or so and if LaBrie wasn't a "good vocalist" he wouldn't have been part of that. Also for what it's worth I don't think this guy is as good as LaBrie, as someone mentioned he doesn't seem to have any power in his performance.

Also, that Muse cover. Did not like. :nono:

It is difficult for a band that had played for 20 years when a band popped up to sound like them instead of the other way around  but yeah, I get what you are saying and I definitely feel La Brie was always the weak point of DT.

I have seen them live maybe 4 times throughout the years, the first was I think in 95 ish, and he (La Brie) has always been horrible live as well, while the rest were remarkably tight and consistent, even back then and even through an hour of straight playing, like the SFAM tour where they just played the whole thing just like the record.

And I know all of them write the lyrics (especially Mike on the later albums) but not even the lyrics are good  Poor La Brie. I know that in the studio he is a technical monster and all that by I disagree that he helps the music of DT.

This band sounds cool though :yesway:

Same... all we are doing is disagreeing on opinion. I'd take JLB over this guy. (not that this guy is useless or anything).

However when I saw the title mention "good vocalist" I got my hopes up and set the bar at expecting something like Russell Allen or Devin Townsend.
