Let the speculation begin... The only two things not really seen as of late is a tribute or reissue of the UV777GR or a completely new universe. If you have any info please contribute. I expect this to happen winter NAMM.

I don't think we're going to see much if anything. All the stuff "we" want Steve either never really liked or doesn't care for, like the GR.

I could see a limited release PaW "Monkey Grip Universe" or another round of REs, but neither is very likely given how relatively poorly the last round of swirls went.

Steve just isn't really into UVs much anymore, nor 7s in general.

Besides, the actual anniversary was this year.

There are rumblings of a PIA/UV sort of thing, but I'm not enthusiastic.

Agreed on the PIA/UV. Those PIAs are an eyesore.

I agree that if anything maybe an MC reissue or a swirl of some sort. Would be cool if they did reissue the GR or a UV with a maple board but a swirl seems more likely. It’ll be interesting to see. I wish the premium UVs were done a little better. It’s a shame that the BK has non three-dimensional green dot inlays and the pyramids were a tad bit enlarged on the PWH (at least it seems that way) and the fact that it didn’t feature a lo-pro was disappointing.

I agree I dont think there will be much if anything which is such a shame. Personally I would love to see the original PaW Monkey Grip Universe (Which Thomas McRocklin has had for years)

or some sort of twist on the 90th HAM UV Ibanez made Steve as I love the 90th HAM Jem.

Real shame tho that the mood on this is that no big effort will be made for the 30th anniversary of such a ground breaking guitar

I'd like to see a 7-string version of the green PIA. It's ridiculously gaudy, but I kind of love it.

I think Max is probably right, we probably won't get anything. Sucks the UV is so highly revered by many players but there hasn't been a production MIJ offering since like 2012 or '13, whenever they discontinued the 777bk.

If there is anything i'd imagine it'll be super limited like the new K7's. Don't see them swirling again after the P&W's. They would have to be ATD, and the price would be through the roof.

Between everything that's going on, guitars being less popular with the general public, Steve Vai being less popular with guitarists, and 7 strings being less popular with Steve Vai, I don't see anyone making a big deal out of the 30th anniversary of the UV out side of this and maybe two other message boards.

Which means it's perfect for a limited run and a price hike for the collectors.

I understood that Darren at ATD and Ibanez have some burned bridges that would need repairing before any new swirls from him ended up on an Ibanez run. Ron Thorn’s probably not going to do them this time, working for Fender and all...

As such, I think we are unlikely to get a swirl this time, if there’s anything at all...

There have been rumors of Bruno getting the EVO treatment for years now, and it just never happens. To my knowledge, they've never actually tried to make one with production in mind.

I specifically remember a video where Vai said that Ibanez was going to attempt to replicate it, been maybe 4-5 years ago? I have no idea what video that is but I'll see if I can dig in the memory banks and figure it out.
