    So I just pickedup one of theses bad boys last night! What an amazing instument! So the goal of this thread is for RG-XL owners to take a poll to see how many and what range they were made. So the RG7421XL was made from 2001-2002, however mine was made in 2000. So just trying to see how many exist in our community of 7 slingers!

    I love my 7421xl. Amazing neck on it and it slays with an Evo 7 in the bridge.

    Mine has been my main guitar for 6 years now. I had the Universe with the mirror pickguard before it, but the 7421XL sounds and plays way better to me.

    I've given the guitar a lot of upgrades (the wood is the only original thing left) but the only one I'd recommend as being needed is to change the saddles to graphtech ones. Before I did that I was breaking strings at the bridge every band practice.

    Arnt those the uk version of the 1077xl?

    Yea so the genius before the guy I bought it from installed a HUGE kill switch. I'm making it smaller and installing Dimarzio tone zone in bridge and air norton in neck, dropping her down to G# as well! Pics to follow. Can someone plz post some pics of theirs?

    Are they 27" scales?

    Can you post pics of the upgrades plz?

    Will Do. It looks the same pretty much but it's got blaze/air Norton, upgraded bridge and saddles, stainless steel frets, locking sperzels and a graphtech nut.
    I'm not really a 7 string riffer, I use the 7th string for cleans/chords, but when I do the low B sounds a little lower output and not as clear so I wouldn't mind some new pickups. The cleans are awesome though.

    It was only my phone camera so you can't really tell, but the frets are 6000 sized stainless steel.

    They are 27" scale, but you're right they were not marketed as XL.

    This is, sadly, the only decent picture of my 1077xl that I have. Taken last time I set it up.

    Whats the tuning stability like on those with the trem? The Universe I had just would not stay in tune. I took it for a pro set up to my usual tech who does all my guitars flawlessly and it was still really bad.

    Thanks to Default M for the pics! I jus got mine all finished with the current mods. I put grey dimarzio tone zone in the bridge, grey dimarzio air norton in the neck. Someone installed a GIANT three way/ kills witch..... I swapped it for a tiny 2way. I plan to maybe change the saddles/bridge in the future! I will post pics as soon as I figure out how to do so from my iPad. Lol

    Dude I loooove the white on that, it looks amazing, what pup combo do u have in it?

    It's an Air Norton in the neck, a Blaze single (boo) in the middle, and an Evo7 in the bridge.

    The pics? Technically you should upload them to any image hosting website and link them to here from there using the [IMG ] [/ IMG] inserts. (minus the spaces of course)

    Not technically, although you are correct in that they had different distribution. The RG1077XL was manufactured in 2001 and 2002. It had a Lo Pro 7 trem (also, another distinguishing feature was the lack of neck volute). Then when Ibanez switched to the Edge Pro 7 in 2003, they turfed the 1077XL and came out with the 2077XL.

    Indeed they are.

    They lacked the XL branding, but they were in fact 27".
