Playability wise, some prefer the Ibanez AZ, others like the Charvel Dk24. I've never played the AZ, but I've played other Ibanezs, but now I own a single DK24. The DK24 probably the has the best neck shape for my hands. I haven't played the AZ necks, but supposedly they are comparable to a slightly smaller Strat neck profile.

Charvel has the Duncan's I like. Dont know much about the Ibanez Hyperions. I doubt it's bad

But lookswise, the AZ premiums dont impress me much. Something about it looks a little bit too much (for me). It doesn't look well put together for me. I like gaudy guitars, I love neon yellow and orange and crazy wood tops, but those exotic wood tops dont do anything for me on the AZ. I love the seafoam AZ though. Also the Blue metallic AZ looks really tasty to me. Looks very progressive. But the exotic top, might be your thing, not mine.

I prefer the balanced look of the DK24 burgundy. That's a sweet finish as well.

Is price no object here, or did you mean to link a Premium AZ?

You're comparing a MiJ Ibanez Prestige AZ (and one of the more expensive ones due to the woods used) to a MiM Charvel. This Ibanez is almost 3x the price of this Charvel. If you were thinking Premium AZ instead that would make more sense, or even the regular Prestige AZ (opaque finishes) which would be double the price .
If you're considering that exact Prestige AZ then why not consider the Charvel USA DK24???

Premium? Buy the Charvel. The quality of the Charvel is very good for the price, but there is a lot of lemons in the Premium AZ range (in my own experience).

    Prestige? Get the AZ

The AZ is just a fantastic.

The pickups are between vintage and modern. You can go into metal territory if you want to, but it's geared more toward fusion. They can also be split in a way that gives you 10 sounds in total so there is a ton of variety there. If you are not after the sound of an extremely high output pickup for crushing gain, the AZ will be right up your alley. Also the neck is super comfortable if you are into modern Fender necks.

The pickups in the Charvel are your typical Duncans. Great pickups if you jive with them, but less flexible than the AZ. I would say that they are slightly more 'Metal' than the Hyperions in the AZ.

I think the Hyperions in the premium AZs are pretty dark. Charvel’s are brighter.

I’d echo what others are saying here, having played all of them:
Prestige AZ > Charvel > Premium AZ

If it’s the elliptical neck, both are different from the Suhr. Both are more traditional and not too far from modern Fender, so very comfy. The radius is 10 on the AZ, don’t know on the Charvel.

    Charvel DK24 = 12-16" Radius (43mm Nut)
    Ibanez AZ = 12" Radius (42mm Nut)

    Ibanez neck thickness is 0.80-0.88
I don't remember Charvel's thickness at the moment, but i think its .75-.83 (I could be wrong though).

Basically, Charvel will be thinner than the Suhr and the Ibanez will be thicker than the Suhr.

Have you clarified what models you were talking about? Premium, Prestige, pricier Prestige?

Pickups on the Charvel are a little more 'rock-metal', while the pickups on the Ibanez are a little more 'rock-prog-fusion'.

Personally if you can afford a Prestige AZ then I'd grab that one (better quality than the MiM Charvels). If you are able to afford the Prestige AZ with the 'exotic wood', that is in the price range of the USA Charvel DK24's, in which case it would be about even in terms of quality.

In my experience, the Premium AZ's are nicer than the MiM Charvels too, but they are still more expensive by a fair amount.

Being a Fender fan boi... Charvel by a country mile.

    Now...

If that sweet Ibby came in the same color as that DK...

:duel:...I'd HAVE to play them both first.
