    Haven't found the time to snap a few pics until now... It was my 30th birthday on 26/12/16 and with it being a biggy my fiancee decided to do the amazing and bought me a Mayones Regius. That's right; pretty sure she's definitely a keeper. Onslaught of crappy iPhone pics in terrible lighting below;

    Bonus round; also got an incredibly rare sealed copy of Dissection - Storm Of The Lights Bane on vinyl too!

    I've been looking at Mayones for about 5 years now and never quite pulled the trigger... there's always been something that's came up or what's been available when I've had the cash hasn't quite been what I wanted (not green, all gloss, a top I didn't love etc.). So after 5 years of GAS'ing and build-up how does it compare to my expectations?

    It's absolutely killer and doesn't even remotely disappoint. Pretty standard specs apart from it having a gloss top and matt back, which is a really big deal for me, and a set of Bare Knuckle Blackhawks which which really surprised me with how good they are. Might want to swap them out at a later date for something else though as they're not quite my cup of tea.

    It's surprisingly weighty, which I love as I'm a fan of heavier guitars, and plays like butter. Every note rings out so loud and clear. The low B has a bit of rattle, but I've got a set of NYXL 11-64 strings sitting waiting for when I tune it to Bb shortly so I'll see to that then.

    Apart from the fact that's it's obviously an amazing gift it's a really special guitar to me as it feels like the culmination of all the things I've liked about guitars I've owned in the past all rolled in to one... ash body, neck-through, green flame etc. Very much in love with it. Haven't played a 7 string in quite some time either and I'm getting a real kick out of that.

    Summary; Mayones good, believe the hype, now need Duvell Elite, good thing I'm already marrying her as fiancee is amazing, pressure is now on to live up to this for her 30th birthday!

    Yeah, and if you do marry her, be sure to get a pre-nup. UNLESS she actually has more money than you, then definitely DON'T get a pre-nup. :lol:

    Congrats on the belated birthday NGD and engagement.

    Haha nah she's on the ball when it comes to guitar stuff... whenever we go in local guitar stores she always complains about the lack of ESP's or Caparisons etc. Clear sign I ramble too much about gear I think haha. Good shout on the midget porn though, better to be safe than sorry ;)

    First comes the engagement ring

    Then comes the wedding ring

    Then comes the suffering

    :lol:

    Kidding of course, thats one guitar you can never say goodbye to.

    I got sadness, depression and the realization that I'm truly alone in this world for my birthday, but your gift was better. Happy new guitar day!

    Thanks for the kind words everyone!

    It's a bit tricky to describe the Blackhawks... the bridge is good, incredibly clear, but it's nothing special. 'Djent' is what comes to mind for me, which might be great for some but it's not the sound I look for. I played for a few hours today and it's easy enough to get a good tone out of it, but as soon as I swapped over to my Horizon with a Black Winter in it the tone just immediately felt more 'alive'. Way more aggression and character, too, rather than being 'clacky' like the Blackhawk. The bridge Blackhawk is maybe just a bit too 'polite' for my taste and I find the neck to be quite bland and sterile.

    I'm aware that it sounds like I'm being very negative about the Blackhawks - they're actually really really good, it's just me being super-critical. Definitely great quality, just maybe not my ultimate preference.
