    Hi all,

I have been tweaking my new HX Stomp for a few amp models to get best combination for chunky metal rhythms and lead metal solos.

So far I am using the following amp models:

    German Ubersonic (Bogner Ubershall)
    Meteor (Based on ENGL Fireball)
    Soldano
    Rectifier
    JCM 800

What settings would you recommend for these amps for gain, treble, sag, bias, etc?

What pedals would you recommend and settings?

If you have presets to share, I am totally up for those.

Put Hedgehog tube screamer with gain at 0 and vol at 9-ish. Tone for taste and axe/pickups. Engl, PRS, Revv sims are the best imho. Then EQ from Mesa Mark (there is one in Eq section). On amps I set bass at 2-4, mids at 6-7, treble and prescence to taste. On mesa eq I cut 750 Hz a bit. I play it through PowerStage 170 into Suhr ported 1x12” cab wih V30.

Try the Line 6 2204 Mod, that's perfect for Thrash.

    2204 Mod + Screamer and you're golden!

What settings do you recommend for the 2204 mode amp and tube screamer?

Yeah by far my favorite amp models on HX Stomp:

    • Ubersonic
    • Rectifier
    • ANGL Meteor
    • 2204 modded
    • Revv
    • Placater
This really helps me in choosing my next tube amp purchase! Anyways, a shame that Diezel, KSR, Mezzabarba, and Wizard profiles are not available on the Line 6 modelers. I really don't want to pay 2k plus for a Kemper or Axe FX III to get these tasty amp profiles and have never played these amps in real life to know if they are any good for my needs.

    Boost EQ + Revv...some good IR's.

I really don't care for any of the OD pedals in there.

Line 6 Badonk. Naturally has a scoop in the low mids and a super aggressive high mid/treble sound. Perfect for old-school thrash and can get tight enough for modern metal.

IIRC it's based on a Triple Rectifier, but it sounds much tighter and aggressive than the stock Recto. Don't let the fact that it's a Line 6 amp dissuade you. It sounds MUCH better than the old Big Bottom.

If you want to get it more tight and modern, I liked using the Compulsive drive. I remember it having a lot of output on board so I only had the volume at like 7 I think? Tone at 7 as well, peak on Hi, and select V2 for a thicker sound or V4 for a brighter sound.

Another option for thrash is the Cali IV. Treble high, bass low, and take the 5-band and try to emulate a V-shape EQ.

Thanks guys! I will experiment and see what I can come up with. Really digging my HX Stomp. Perfect for home practice and recording in a small apartment with cranky downstair neighbor and paper thin walls.
